The Company is also bringing forward previously scheduled LSP and other operating maintenance during this period in order to reduce future planned downtime.Because LSP supplies electricity to Algoma’s steelmaking operations, the Company has suspended production at its electric arc furnace (EAF). Downstream finishing and shipping activities continue. Based on current inventory and order positions, the Company does not expect a significant impact on its ability to meet committed customer delivery dates. However, the Company expects future shipment volumes may be affected by the outage.Get the latest headlines, breaking news and columns.By signing up you consent to receive the above newsletter from Postmedia Network Inc.A welcome email is on its way. Based on the current assessment, the Company expects the EAF outage to last no more than 21 days, reflecting the anticipated timeline to commission the contracted spare turbine and restore normal operating conditions at LSP. The Company is also pursuing an alternative onsite power supply arrangement with the IESO which, if approved, could enable EAF operations to restart within approximately 10 days.Algoma will provide a further update when the assessment is completed and a timeline for the restart of EAF operations is established.Cautionary Statement Regarding Forward-Looking StatementsThis news release contains “forward-looking information” under applicable Canadian securities legislation and “forward-looking statements” within the meaning of the U.S. Private Securities Litigation Reform Act of 1995 (collectively, “forward-looking statements”), including statements regarding the unplanned outage at the Lake Superior Power (LSP) facility and the expected scope, cost and duration of the related inspection, repair and maintenance work, the temporary suspension and expected restart of the Company’s EAF operations, discussions with the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) regarding power supply options, the commissioning and operation of the Company’s contracted spare turbine, the impact of the outage on production, shipments, customer commitments and financial results, Algoma’s transition to EAF steelmaking and the expected benefits thereof, and the Company’s strategy, plans or future financial or operating performance.
