I walked in and I was like, ‘How am I going to do this, how am I going to do this show in this building?” She added: “That’s probably why I have such an emotional journey with this show. The pair had a chequered history, with Alexandra accusing her mum of kicking her out when she was 16 and being jealous of her career. Alexandra was heartbroken by Melissa’s death just before her time on Strictly began — and only decided to continue with the show in her honour. During her time on Strictly, the singer opened up about how she thought she saw Melissa in the audience. Speaking to HELLO! magazine at the time, Alexandra admitted: “I think she’s watching over me.” Alexandra then spoke about a specific moment when she thought she saw her mother in the studio audience on the week she performed her jive to Tina Turner’s Proud Mary. She recalled: “When the camera panned to the audience, I saw my mum sitting with my brother David and I choked up. “Then it hit me that she wasn’t there.” Comment now
