Alex Cooper Doubles Down On YouTube With ‘Unwell Summer Games’

Call Her Daddy host Alex Cooper, who launched Unwell Winter Games earlier this year, is touting a summer version of the YouTube competition series. Her company Unwell is launching the summer series on September 7 with a slew of creators and reality stars including a number of former Love Islanders. Eric Detwiler, who has exec produced series including Love Is Blind and Perfect Match, has also come on board as an exec producer. The series will see 16 people compete head-to-head for a $250,000 cash prize. Filmed over four days at a ranch in Canada, the series puts exes, rivals, friends and familiar faces under one roof for high-stakes competition. Adam W will host with commentary from Cameron Gerrard and Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu. Watch on Deadline The cast features Beau Bailey (Love Overboard), Chad Batchelder, Hallie Batchelder, Suede Brooks (Calabasas Confidential), Kassy Castillo (Perfect Match), Tim Demirjian (Love Overboard), Brandon Edelman, Pepe Garcia (Love Island), Blake Gray, Zarah Kelleher, Carly Lawrence (Too Hot to Handle), Becca Moore, Dejon Noel-Williams (Love Island UK), Daniela Ortiz (Love Island USA), Jourdan Riane (Love Island UK) and Jimmy Sotos (Perfect Match). Unwell Winter Games, which starred a number of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives stars, was an interesting move into original formats for YouTube; Cooper launched a number of shows at the Google-owned company’s Upfronts in May. The first episode of the show, which premiered in April, recorded 1.4M views on YouTube with its highest rated episode scoring 1.8M views on YouTube. It comes as a number of production companies are trying to figure out a strategy to develop and produce entertainment formats for YouTube. Unwell Summer Games is executive produced by Cooper, Detwiler, Matt Kaplan and Mina Lefevre. “Our audience moves fluidly across platforms, and our job is to continue meeting them where they are with ideas that feel distinctly Unwell,” said Matt Kaplan, Co-CEO of Unwell. “The response to Winter Games reinforced the opportunity we see on YouTube, and we’re continuing to invest in original formats that bring together great talent, big personalities and the kind of entertainment our audience wants to be part of.”
