Aldi reveals full list of 160 ‘priority locations’ for new stores across UK – is one near you?

ALDI has revealed the full list of its 160 “priority locations”, as the discounter speeds up its expansion plans. The discounter previously announced it would invest £370million to open 40 new stores this year, hoping to hit 1,500 nationwide. Sign up for the Money newsletter Thank you! In May, Aldi called on the public to help the supermarket identify the best places for new stores, asking shoppers to nominate towns and cities that would benefit from a discount supermarket. A host of locations have been nominated across the UK, from Stirling in Scotland, to Penzance in Cornwall. Aldi has also released a list of 25 locations where the grocer is actively seeking sites, including Newcastle, Leeds, Warwick, Bath, and more. Jonathan Neale, Aldi UK MD of national real estate said: “We know how important it is for people to have access to affordable, high-quality food close to where they live, which is why we’re focused on identifying the communities that would benefit most from a new Aldi store. “Opening new stores in these areas means we can bring great value to more customers, while also creating jobs and offering industry-leading pay.” Aldi is currently the best-paying supermarket in the UK, offering an hourly-rate of £13.50 for entry-level roles, and £14.88 for those based inside the M25. Targeting the capital and Greater London, the move hopes to bring hundreds of new jobs and more affordable food options to communities lacking discount stores. Aldi’s next store will open on Thursday, August 6, on Edgware Road – one of London’s busiest streets. The supermarket has not yet released the precise opening dates for its planned branch expansions, but they are expected to gradually launch for the rest of the year. Comment now
