Aldi makes major change to over 250 supermarket car parks that will save shoppers time AND money

ALDI has rolled out a major change to its 250 supermarkets and it’s good news for shoppers travelling by car. The German discounter has a new feature which allows customers with electric cars to charge up while they shop at the store. Customers can charge up their EV car while they shop at the store Credit: jetcityimage Aldi has also moved some 1,200 of its chargers over to Drax Electric Vehicles, which has also worked with major brands such as Arnold Clark. It’s priced at 40p per kWh for fast charging and 62p per kWh for rapid charging. Sign up for the Money newsletter Thank you! Supermarkets tend to charge between 50–65p per kWh, according to figures by Love Electric. Customers can check availability, view charging costs and pay through the Charge Assist app, or use contactless card payment on the newly installed chargers, with no subscription needed. Stores with charging facilities include Aldi’s Diss store in Norfolk, alongside locations in Eastbourne, Durham and Yate near Bristol. Aldi also has plans to install the chargers at around 20 new stores each year. Jonathan Neale, managing director of national real estate at Aldi UK, said: “We’re committed to making sustainable choices more accessible for our shoppers, and we know many are looking for affordable, reliable and convenient ways to charge their cars. “By expanding EV charging at more of our stores, we’re helping to make that easier and offering great-value charging while they shop.” Most read in Money If you are keen to charge up while you are at a branch, it may be worth ringing up your nearest location ahead of time to enquire about whether or not they have the feature.
