Aldi launching pastel kitchen mixer this weekend – but shoppers are raving about a ‘super’ retro Salter deal

Aldi’s mixer sports a five-litre stainless steel bowl, eight speed settings and a pulse function, as well as the usual attachments of beater, whisk, dough hook and splash guard. All accessories are safe to pop in the dishwasher, and the head swivels back for easier access to the bowl. There’s also a 3-year warranty, but be aware that, being in-store only, you’ll have to be lucky to pick one up before they’re gone. Meanwhile, the Salter alternative boasts a 1300W motor compared to the Ambiano’s 420W, and matches the five-litre bowl and eight speeds. It also has a planetary rotation, suction feet to stop it travelling across the worktop, and a safety lock, which Aldi’s version doesn’t have. Others praised its handling of bread dough and that it isn’t too loud, as well as its overall value for money. Which one you should opt for depends almost entirely on how much you’ll end up using it. If you only bake a few times a year and need something cheap, I’d go for the £34.99 Aldi model and spend the difference on cake tins. But for those amateur bakers (or aspiring ones), the Salter’s powerful motor and strong reviews make it the safer bet. Comment now
