With the new season comes a new series on AL.com where each week, our Auburn beat writers will predict the result of the upcoming game.Be sure to join in on the fun and make your predictions down below in our comment section:Jerry Humphrey IIITracker: 5-2Score: Ole Miss 35, Auburn 21Analysis: Auburn needs its face back after getting bullied off the field in its 38-17 loss to LSU. However, it will not be easy when matching against No. 12 Ole Miss and quarterback Trinidad Chambliss. The Tigers’ have given up 2,778 opponent yards through seven games this season, as Chambliss ranks second in the SEC in passing with 1,926 yards. This game will come down to if Auburn can make stops on defense because after giving up over 500 yards of offense to LSU. Chambliss also comes into the game with seven interceptions after throwing two in the Rebels’ 34-27 loss to Texas last week. Auburn has eight interceptions and four forced fumbles this year despite the up-and-down play on that side of the ball. Forcing turnovers will be the recipe the Tigers’ follow in their efforts to spoil Halloween in Oxford. Peter RauterkusTracker: 6-1Score: Ole Miss 35, Auburn 24Analysis: Auburn’s trip to Oxford this weekend marks the end of a brutal four-game stretch during the month of October. The Tigers found a way to pull off a shocking upset over Georgia two weeks ago and will need a similar effort to do the same against Ole Miss. The Rebels don’t seem to be as talented as Georgia but are a double-digit favorite for a reason. Auburn’s defense hasn’t done much this season to make me believe it can slow down Trinidad Chambliss, Ole Miss’ superstar quarterback. If Auburn can run the ball, it has a chance to put up points on Ole Miss’ defense. That’s been the Rebels’ biggest weakness through seven games.Even if Auburn does that, it’s going to take some Ole Miss turnovers and a few good breaks for this game to go the Tigers’ way. I think Auburn keeps this game competitive but won’t have enough defensively to pull off another road upset.Jerry Humphrey III is an Auburn Sports Beat Writer for AL.com since Oct. 2024, covering football, basketball and all things Auburn sports.
