Alan Ritchson Fires Back At A Reacher Fan’s Complaint With A Brutal Reminder

Prime Video’s Reacher is an action drama series starring Ritchson as Jack Reacher, a former U.S. Army military police investigator who travels across the country. The series follows Reacher as he repeatedly gets involved with murder and other dangerous investigations, using his skills to help law enforcement solve cases. In a recent post on Threads, one fan praised Ritchson’s performance as Reacher but had an issue with the Prime Video series’ fight scenes. He argued that the titular character of Lee Child's novels, which the show is based on, does not lose fights or even come close. So, when the show makes Reacher's fate seem uncertain during fight scenes, it makes no sense to him. However, Ritchson responded to the fan's reaction with his impressive knowledge of the novels, citing a pretty big event that completely contradicted the viewer's statement. The actor referenced a very intense moment in Tripwire, the third installment in Child’s series, where Reacher most certainly did not come out on top. The example Ritchson used is far more brutal than just losing a fight. During the book's final fight involving Victor “Hook” Hobie, Reacher suffers severe injuries after debris from a shotgun sends a nail into his skull. Despite the injury, he continues fighting and is later shot in the chest with a .38-caliber handgun. While Reacher ultimately survives, he does not walk away victorious at all. He was unconscious for three weeks following the confrontation. Tripwire later reveals that the bullet did not penetrate farther into his chest because of the thickness of his muscles. However, the shot still causes some major damage. The nail also goes into his skull, making the sequence one of the more extreme events that Reacher survives in Child’s series. Ritchson’s response directly goes against the idea that Prime Video's Reacher is unfaithful to the source material in the way the fan claimed. He proves that the character does actually face severe consequences, and some of which nearly cost him his life. While Reacher is famously difficult to overpower, Tripwire is a clear example of how he is not as invincible as people seem to believe.
