Air Defenses Downed 445,000 Russian Targets Since 2022

Acting Defense Minister Evgeniy Khmara announced Sunday, Aug. 2, that Ukrainian air defense forces have destroyed over 445,000 Russian aerial targets since the beginning of o full-scale invasion in February 2022. Additionally, Ukrainian aviation has conducted more than 38,000 combat sorties over the past four years, neutralizing over 12,000 enemy aircraft, helicopters, missiles, and drones, the acting minister stated. While highlighting the cumulative operational data of Ukraine’s air defenses, Khmara acknowledged the immediate necessity for additional advanced weaponry and technologies to counter the ongoing strikes. July interception rates drop amid record attacks The structural need for additional air defense systems was underscored in July, which saw a record 377 Russian missiles launched at Ukraine. According to military estimates, the overall interception rate for the month dropped to approximately 50%. The deficit of US-made Patriot systems and other advanced interceptors has particularly affected the defense against high-speed ballistic trajectories. Of the 126 ballistic missiles fired in July, Ukrainian forces intercepted 36, or roughly 29%.
