Air Canada Launches 14 New Nonstop Routes To Europe: See Full List & Map Now

Air Canada is currently enjoying something of a European boom, with 14 new transatlantic routes being added this year or next year. These corridors are concentrated at three of its hubs in the east of the country: seven from Montréal–Trudeau International Airport (YUL) in, six from Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ), and one from Halifax Stanfield International Airport (YHZ). According to present scheduling data made available by Cirium, an aviation analytics company, several of these new routes are served by modern narrowbody twinjets such as the Boeing 737 MAX 8 and, even more excitingly, the Airbus A321XLR. Aircraft such as these have unlocked a wide range of secondary European destinations for Air Canada, the spread of which we shall now explore in detail. Montreal Has The Most Additions Air Canada's Montreal additions began in June of this year, with that month seeing it start flights to Catania (CTA) in Italy, Nantes (NTE) in France, and Palma de Mallorca (PMI) in Spain. Catania and Palma were both served by the Boeing 787-8: the A321XLR had been slated for the latter route, but concerns about its performance in the Spanish heat saw it replaced by the larger Boeing 787-8. The Nantes route, meanwhile, was launched with the Boeing 737 MAX 8 before switching to the A321XLR. Flights to Berlin (BER) began in July, using the 787 and then the A321XLR, with A321XLR flights to Tenerife (TFS) set to launch in October. Next year, Dubrovnik (DBV) flights with the 787 will start in April, with A321XLR services to Basel (BSL) launching a month later. Air Canada said of its additions that: "Our new destinations and many schedule enhancements support commerce and tourism and create exciting new opportunities for people to explore the world." Toronto Isn't Far Behind June also saw Air Canada launch the first two of an eventual six new transatlantic routes commencing operations either this year or next year from Toronto Pearson International Airport in the province of Ontario. One was a seasonal service to Ponta Delgada (PDL) in the Azores, which ran from June to September using the Boeing 737 MAX 8. That month, flights to Budapest (BUD) also started running. While also a seasonal service, it has a longer window than the Ponta Delgada route, with these Boeing 787-operated flights lasting until October. Air Canada's next new European route to launch from Toronto will serve Tenerife with the A321XLR, and, like the route from Montreal, it will commence operations in October. However, it will only run until March, whereas the YUL-TFS flights will be year-round. Two of these will use the Airbus A321XLR, with their destinations being Oslo (OSL) in Norway and Shannon (SNN) in Ireland. Meanwhile, the carrier has opted for the larger A330-300 on its new route from Toronto to Nice (NCE) in France. But what about Halifax, Nova Scotia? Much like the Heathrow services, these are also operated by the Boeing 737 MAX 8 (although the A321XLR will take over on the London route in December).
