Aidan O’Brien pulls five horses from race to set up epic Constitution River vs Ombudsman £1.5million Juddmonte showdown

SportHorse Racing AIDAN O’BRIEN has pulled five horses from the £1.5million Juddmonte – setting up a mouthwatering clash between Constitution River and Ombudsman. The Ballydoyle boss whittled down his potential runners for the York blockbuster at today’s scratchings stage. He has left in superstar three-year-old Constitution River along with Minnie Hauk, Action, Benvenuto Cellini, Causeway, Hawk Mountain and Diamond Necklace. What it means is that punters look all but certain to see the clash of the summer as the Coral-Eclipse hero readies to take on his elder rival. John & Thady Gosden’s awesome Godolphin-owned five-year-old has never finished outside the top two. He was last seen demolishing Minnie Hauk by four lengths in the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot and has been primed for this race all year. Among the other big names to miss out though was Francis Graffard’s horse of the year Calandagan. He lacked his usual kick when finishing runner-up to Kalpana in the King George and won’t be part of the York line-up. Other stars to miss out include the seemingly Arc de Triomphe-bound Gethin and Dermot Weld’s hugely exciting Juddmonte-owned four-year-old colt Purview. Most read in Horse Racing Ombudsman has been the general 10-11 fav to defy a 7lb weight-for-age allowance and get the better of Constitution River.
