After Sunny Deol denies pan masala ads, internet digs up his old commercial

Actor Sunny Deol recently said he has never endorsed pan masala, gutkha and would never promote a product he does not believe in. But shortly after the actor made the remark, the internet dug up an old advertisement that appeared to show him featuring in a pan masala commercial alongside actors Ravi Kishan and Vijay Raaz.The resurfaced video has sparked discussion on social media, particularly in light of Sunny’s recent comments. In the advertisement, Sunny is seen arriving at a paan shop with two women, who ask for meetha paan. He then appears to consume the product, while his photograph is also featured on the pan masala packaging.The packaging, however, prominently carries the claims “No tobacco” and “No nicotine”. The old advertisement has now resurfaced online, with social media users drawing attention to the apparent contradiction between the commercial and Sunny’s recent statement.One of the X users reacted to the old ad clip with a picture of the 68-year-old actor from an alcohol advertisement. Another wrote, “Money follows my brothaaa.” A third user defended the actor’s remarks and wrote, “He is talking about recent times. I really haven't seen him in any ads in recent times.” Recently, speaking to Shubhankar Mishra on his YouTube channel, Sunny had said he had received offers to promote products he did not believe in, including pan masala, but chose to turn them down.“I don’t do pan masala ads and kabhi karunga bhi nahi (I will never do pan masala ads). I wouldn’t do any of those things. Aatey hai but nahi karunga (I get offers, but I won't do it). I don’t want to do something which I don’t believe in. Main inn sab cheezon ko manta nahi hoon (I don't agree with these things). I don’t think this is a good thing to promote,” he said. “Kitni cheezein nahi karta because mera zameer nahi manta isliye aur joh karni hoti hai woh kar leta hoon (There are so many things I don't do because my conscience doesn't allow it, and the ones that need to be done, I simply do)," he added.The Gadar actor’s remarks came after Shah Rukh Khan, Ajay Devgn and Tiger Shroff were issued notices by the Maharashtra FDA over their indirect promotion of pan masala, a prohibited product in the state. The three actors featured in a 2024 advertisement for Vimal elaichi (cardamom), a brand associated with pan masala products. The FDA said the campaign could amount to surrogate or indirect promotion of prohibited pan masala or tobacco-related products.Meanwhile, on the work front, Sunny is currently seen in Batwara 1947.
