After 10 Years, Tom Holland Finally Nails 1 Key Part Of Playing Spider-Man

Spider-Man: Brand New Day has finally hit theaters after months of anticipation—along with myriad clips, teasers, and trailers that have audiences even more anxious to finally see what happened in this long-awaited fourth installment in the MCU's Spider-Man franchise. In addition to wanting to find out the details of the story, though, there was plenty of interest in and perhaps even concern about whether Brand New Day would be met with praise or criticism, particularly because the MCU has struggled of late with reception. In particular, since Avengers: Endgame hit theaters in 2019, it has felt like the franchise has largely lost its cohesion, and the franchise has arguably had as many successes as it has misses. There have been outliers that were very well-received, like the shows Loki and WandaVision, and, actually, like the last Spider-Man movie, Spider-Man: No Way Home, but the heavy criticism of the franchise over the last seven years is impossible to ignore. Thankfully, though, Brand New Day has been a largely celebrated addition to the MCU. Reviews of the movie are generally very positive, the film's Rotten Tomatoes scores are very impressive (90% with critics and 98% with audiences, currently), and its box office numbers are shattering records. There are myriad reasons why this movie is doing so well, from its cast's performances to the actually innovative story details and so much more. However, for Tom Holland in particular, there is one major upgrade in this movie, and it deserves its flowers as well. Tom Holland's New York Accent Was On Point In Brand New Day Tom Holland has been a brilliant Peter Parker/Spider-Man from the moment he entered the MCU in Captain America: Civil War in 2016. Yet, there was one aspect of Spider-Man that he seemed to struggle with: his accent. Peter Parker is meant to be from Queens, New York, and that is a very specific accent. It's clear that Holland has done incredible work with a dialect coach, and he managed to convince many viewers that he was indeed American. However, in terms of his Queens accent, that wasn't always the best. (He also, at times, accidentally let his actual British accent slip through, which is understandable). That was absolutely not the case in Brand New Day, though. In fact, not only has Holland been highly praised for his Queens accent in Brand New Day, but also, audiences have been impressed by how much Holland has embodied the spirit of a New Yorker overall, down to the way he talks with his hands in arguments with Punisher. Brand New Day Really Was Among The Best Spider-Man Movies Holland's improved Queens accent in Brand New Day is a great example of how this movie just took the extra step to be better. His accent was never horrible, and, at times, it actually sounded rather good. In Brand New Day, though, it stood out because of how accurate it was, and because Holland really seemed to be a New Yorker with his body language, expressions, way of arguing, and more. It's therefore not all that surprising that many are saying this is one of the greatest Spider-Man movies of all time—including Tobey Maguire's and Andrew Garfield's. This also makes it more exciting to see Holland's Peter Parker continue to appear in the MCU, but it isn't clear when that will happen. The post-credit scene in Brand New Day indicated that he is somewhere off-world, but where that is remains a mystery. It's possible that he is in Avengers: Doomsday, but that's far from confirmed. It seems more likely that he will be in Avengers: Secret Wars, but for now, it's a waiting game to see if that's true. Regardless, Spider-Man: Brand New Day made it clear that MCU fans should be excited for what's next.
