Published Aug 3, 2026, 2:23 PM EDT WARNING! This article contains SPOILERS for House of the Dragon season 3, episode 7! Alys Rivers' actor clarifies whether Harrenhal's witch knows about Aemond Targaryen's prophesied fate and compares her powers to the Three-Eyed Raven in House of the Dragon. In House of the Dragon season 2's ending, the dragon-dreaming Helaena Targaryen reveals the fates of two of her brothers down the line, foreseeing Aemond's death sinking into the Gods Eye at Harrenhal and Aegon's return to ruling as King from a "wooden throne." Still, Aemond left for Harrenhal anyway in season 3, leading him into a relationship with the magical Alys Rivers, whose powers appear to give her some prescience in addition to other visions and peculiar knowledge of those around her. In an interview with ScreenRant's Liam Crowley, Alys Rivers actor Gayle Rankin revealed that Alys is somewhat aware of Aemond's doomed fate at Harrenhal, confirming that the returning House of the Dragon character has "access to prophecy" but doesn't like to abuse this power. Rankin also clarified that Alys felt a similar sense of "foreboding" around Daemon when he was at Harrenhal in season 2, sensing dark fates for both Targaryen princes: ScreenRant: Is Alys aware of Aemond's ultimate fate at Harrenhal? Gayle Rankin: "I want to believe that she has to be. I think both with Daemon and with Aemond, she has a very strong sense of something very foreboding. And that's really heartbreaking, especially as you get closer to somebody." Alys Rivers' awareness of Aemond's prophecy to die at the Gods Eye adds a more tragic layer to her new romance with Ewan Mitchell's character, especially as she seeks to give him sons and begin a new "dynasty" together at Harrenhal. It's unclear if Alys would try to use her powers to prevent this fate from coming to fruition, but she certainly knows that Aemond being at Harrenhal has a sense of doom clouding it. Alys having some knowledge of Aemond's fate also ties into her foreseeing Alicent arriving to do him harm in House of the Dragon season 3, episode 7. While she didn't know what exactly Alicent planned to do, she warned Aemond and was proven correct when he came stumbling to her poisoned toward the end of the episode. Rankin's character's ability to predict these outcomes exacerbates the mysteries around the extent of her powers, which were taken to a new level in the season 2 finale when she facilitated Daemon's visions of the future at the weirwood tree. Addressing the similarities between Alys' powers and that of the Three-Eyed Raven in Game of Thrones, whose abilities hold a strong connection to weirwood trees, Rankin clarified Alys' gift of prophecy while noting that she doesn't use it in extremes due to her own mortality: ScreenRant: Alys seems like the closest we have in House of the Dragon to, say, the Three-Eyed Raven from the original Game of Thrones series. What would you say the extent of her powers are as they relate to things like the visions or the weirwood tree? Gayle Rankin: "I think she knows she has them. She doesn’t like to abuse her power because I do think she’s also mortal, but I do think she has access to prophecy. I think she’s been gifted to that at a certain point." Given Alys now intends to magically hatch dragon eggs with Aemond and bear him sons, the extent of her powers will likely become more clear and intense as they work to bring these plans to fruition amid growing external dangers. While Alys is unlikely to reiterate Helaena's prophecy of his death to Aemond, it remains to be seen whether she'll bring him to the weirwood tree to see the future of House Targaryen's dynasty, as she did with Daemon. While Daemon believes Daenerys will be born of his children with Rhaenyra, Alys might alternatively believe that her sons with Aemond and the clutch of dragon eggs at Harrenhal could fulfill the prophecy. REVEAL MY SCORE → Dragonstone Archives · Sealed by Fire Your Dragon Rider Record 🐉 / 8 Did you ride to glory — or fall from the sky? ↻ DANCE AGAIN The Three-Eyed Raven, aka Brynden Rivers, has yet to be born in House of the Dragon's timeline, so Alys presently appears to be one of the most powerful magical figures in Westeros. It's strongly implied that Alys is also a warg, similar to the Three-Eyed Raven, but it doesn't appear she has its omniscient knowledge. Furthermore, while the Three-Eyed Raven uses greensight and prophecy often, Rankin notes that Alys restricts herself in regard to these powers, which may keep her from knowing the full extent of Aemond and Daemon's fates in House of the Dragon. With House of the Dragon season 4 set to be the series' final installment, the season 3 finale will usher in Aemond and Alys' closing story arc at Harrenhal that will potentially culminate in his death at the nearby lake. Since Aemond and Alys already know of his prophetic fate, House of the Dragon may introduce some more twists and surprises in regard to how and why the prophecy will come to fruition.
