Actor Vishal's debut directorial Magudam locks August release, trailer this week

Actor Vishal has officially announced the release date of his long-awaited directorial debut, Magudam. The film will hit theatres worldwide on August 14, while its trailer is set to be unveiled on August 7.Sharing new posters of Magudam (titled Makutam in Telugu), Vishal wrote on X, "The Crown is Ready!! #Magudam/ #Makutam Trailer from August 7th & releasing worldwide on August 14th (sic)." The announcement finally puts to rest speculation surrounding the film's release after it was initially expected to arrive in theatres in July.The teaser of Magudam, released on June 14, offered a glimpse into Vishal's ambitious action drama. The actor appears in multiple avatars, including a corporate employee, a gangster and an ageing assassin, hinting at a story spanning different timelines or identities. The teaser also introduced Anjali and Dushara Vijayan, who play pivotal roles in the film. Magudam marks Vishal's first outing as a director. The project was originally launched with filmmaker Ravi Arasu at the helm before Vishal took over directing responsibilities midway through production. Ravi Arasu, however, continues to be credited with the story.Rumours of a fallout between Vishal and Ravi Arasu surfaced after the directorial change. However, FEFSI (Film Employees Federation of South India) president RK Selvamani later clarified that the issue had been resolved amicably. Speaking to The Times of India, Selvamani said the misunderstanding between the two had been addressed and that Ravi Arasu had voluntarily stepped away from directing the project. The film also stars John Vijay, Ajay and Vamsi Krishna in key roles, with music composed by GV Prakash Kumar. Backed by Super Good Films, Magudam marks the banner's 99th production. Principal photography concluded in November 2025 after a 17-day climax schedule, following which the film entered post-production.Vishal was last seen in Madha Gaja Raja.
