Actor Shagufta Ali recalls Govinda-Karisma chemistry, says Sunita 'tolerated a lot'

Actor Shagufta Ali has spoken about actors' Govinda and Karisma Kapoor’s equation during the filming of Hero No 1, revealing that their closeness was evident and that Govinda’s wife, Sunita Ahuja, displayed grace if she was aware of it. Her remarks come after Sunita recently spoke about Govinda’s alleged affairs during her appearance on Netflix’s Lock Upp.In an interview with Siddharth Kannan for his YouTube channel, Shagufta, who worked with the duo in David Dhawan’s Hero No 1, was asked about the bond they shared.She said, "Dikhta toh tha (It was visible). He never came to tell me that, but it looked like there was. As long as their on-screen pairing lasted, the public watched them, later got bored watching him with only one heroine. The public also might have felt there was an overdose of it."Shagufta also recalled that Sunita did not visit the set during the shoot of the film. "Sunita never came on set. She came on an outdoor shoot once, with their children. She used to go out very rarely. She spoke to everyone with utmost love, affection and respect. She used to behave very well, and never created a scene on the set," the actor added.Shagufta praised Sunita Ahuja's restraint, stating that she showed "grace" and likely "tolerated a lot" by not creating a scene publicly, even if she was aware of the situation. She appreciated how "very understanding" Ahuja was, noting that few people would handle it that way when anyone else "could have created a scene too." In earlier interviews too, Sunita has acknowledged Govinda’s extra-marital relationships, saying such things keep happening around actors. Karisma was among the female actors with whom Govinda was linked for years, though neither of them addressed the rumours publicly.Govinda and Karisma were one of the most popular on-screen pairings of the 1990s.
