It’s no secret that Capcom has been on a frankly ridiculous winning streak over the past few years. Really, ever since Resident Evil 7 revitalised that series, it’s felt like (Monster Hunter Wild’s growing pains aside) Capcom can do no wrong and is slowly treating fans of nearly all of its series to a comeback of some kind. Of course, it doesn’t really feel like that right now for anyone who wants a new Ace Attorney game. It’s been more than a decade since the last mainline entry in the series, and the rumour mill has been chugging along that Ace Attorney 7 is finally on the horizon. That anticipation made the reveal of a VR remake a bit of a tough pill to swallow. Ace Attorney Dual Destinies In VR Isn’t Going Down Well With Fans Where Were You When Ace Attorney VR Was Announced? Following yesterday’s reveal of Dual Destinies VR, I just knew that the game’s subreddit would be a total wreck. In recent months, fans have been holding out hope for an Ace Attorney 7 announcement at pretty much every event, from Summer Game Fest to Tokyo Game Show. That still hasn’t happened, so everyone over there is on tenterhooks. Unsurprisingly, the subreddit is filled to the brim with reaction posts about the remake. There are a few people who seem happy with it, but most agree that it’s a “baffling” decision, with fans clearly wanting the series to make a proper return. One post calls Capcom “incompetent” for the VR remake currently being all that’s on offer for the series’ 25th anniversary. Perhaps the best representation of how Ace Attorney fans are doing right now comes from Redditor Lexidoge, who asked everyone where they were when the VR remake was announced like it was some kind of worldwide tragedy. I mean, I guess if you’re that hungry for Ace Attorney 7, it might as well be. I’m betting that if Ace Attorney 7 was already revealed by now, the VR game wouldn’t be a problem at all. I guess we’ll know on October 12. It’s not just that we’re getting a VR remake instead of a new game, either, as fans have been quick to point out that Dual Destinies really isn’t a good pick since it doesn’t have free investigation and is also one of the later games in the franchise. It’s just a bit of a messy situation for a fanbase that’s already so close to boiling point after years and years of waiting. But hey, at least you’re not a Dino Crisis fan.
