(Credits: PTI)Kochi,Nov 8, 2026 10:25 ISTCockroach Janata Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke on Saturday predicted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government would be voted out in the 2029 Lok Sabha elections and urged people to prepare for a change at the Centre, news agency Press Trust of India reported.Speaking at a protest against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, Dipke said a change of government could come only through elections. He also reiterated his demand for an independent and impartial electoral system. The protest meeting in Kochi was organised as part of the CJP's Jantar Mantar at Kochi campaign. Referring to the BJP's assertion that Modi would remain in power, Dipke said, "Be prepared for 2029. He will definitely go."He repeatedly asked the gathering whether Modi would lose power in 2029, drawing cheers from the protesters. "The change in the government will only happen through elections," he said, adding that Kumar's resignation was necessary to ensure a fair electoral process. "Gyanesh Kumar has to go. If he goes, Narendra Modi will also go," Dipke said.According to PTI, Dipke said that the government was waging a war against the country's youth to protect the Chief Election Commissioner and questioned why Kumar was so important to the prime minister. Referring to his arrest in Delhi along with CJP leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka for entering Jantar Mantar with the national flag, Dipke said he would continue carrying the Tricolour wherever he went."I was sent behind bars for raising this Tricolour. Saurav and Ashu, my two brothers, were also sent behind bars for raising it. The last time this happened in India was when we were ruled by the British," he said.Comparing the Modi government with British rule, Dipke claimed that it was attempting to restrict people's freedom."I want to tell Narendra Modi that I will carry this Tricolour everywhere, in every part of this country. If you want to arrest me, you can arrest me in Delhi, Maharashtra, Keralam or Tamil Nadu. Arrest me from every part of the country, but I will come back again and raise this Tricolour," he said.Dipke claimed that the government was gradually trying to control what people ate, whom they married and whom they voted for. He claimed that the SIR exercise was being used to influence election outcomes."They first wanted to control what you eat, then whom you can marry and love, and now they have come to a point where they want to control whom you vote for," he said.Dipke said the country was founded on the ideals of BR Ambedkar, Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru. Describing Gandhi as India's soul, Ambedkar as its backbone and Nehru as its mind, he said PM Modi did not have the stature to become greater than the three leaders."Even if you remain in power for 120 years, you will never become bigger than Ambedkar, Gandhi and Nehru," he said.Rejecting allegations that the CJP was receiving foreign funds or working to destabilise India, Dipke accused PM Modi of acting at the behest of foreign powers, particularly US President Donald Trump. He said that PM Modi had compromised India's interests to protect his image and avoid being humiliated by Trump on the global stage."Who is selling the interests of this nation? It is you, not the CJP and not the cockroaches," he said.Dipke said the country had remained largely silent for the past 10 to 12 years, but the Jantar Mantar protest had helped people regain their voice and courage."For the last 10-12 years, somewhere this country had lost its voice. But what happened at Jantar Mantar, because of that, the country has found its voice again," he said.He said that the government was cracking down on young protesters because they had begun questioning those in power. Dipke also accused the BJP of dividing people on religious lines and said that riots were being caused for political interests."This is the youth of this country whom you are calling anarchists. No, sir, we are not anarchists. We are Ambedkarites, we are Gandhians. Don't you dare call us anarchists," he said.Dipke claimed that India was more democratic during former prime minister Manmohan Singh's tenure, when people were allowed to openly criticise the prime minister."First UAPA will be slapped on Modi if he pulls out those speeches that he spoke against Manmohan Singh. But that was India; that was more democratic," he said."I am not saying that government was perfect. But that India was more democratic, where you were allowed to criticise the prime minister. And that is how democracy should be," he added. The meeting at Rajendra Maidan was attended by a large number of people from different age groups. Leaders of several youth and socio-cultural organisations also participated, and cultural programmes were held. Earlier, actor Prakash Raj led a protest march from Marine Drive to Rajendra Maidan. The protest centred on opposition to the revision of electoral rolls and demands for an impartial electoral process, with Dipke calling for Kumar's resignation and predicting a change of government through the 2029 elections.- Ends
