Aamir Khan's niece Zayn Marie shows injury marks after detention at CJP protest

Actor Aamir Khan’s niece, Zayn Marie, has shared pictures of injury marks on her body following her detention by the Mumbai Police during the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest in the city on Saturday. In a new social media post, Zayn showed marks on her arm, fingers, and legs, drawing attention to her experience during the police action.Looking directly into the camera, Zayn said, “Do not scare us so much that no fear is left in the first place.” She accompanied the video with the caption, “she exposes (the state) on the internet.”The actor had earlier shared videos documenting her detention alongside actors Imran Khan and Lekha Washington. The three were detained while attending a protest at Mumbai’s August Kranti Maidan on Saturday.Videos and photographs of the incident surfaced later that day, showing Imran, Lekha and Zayn being taken away in a police van. The actors were released a few hours later, and subsequently they shared updates about the incident on social media and recounted their experiences with the police. In a separate clip, he spoke about what happened after the police picked him up, saying he had no idea why he had been detained."I honestly don't know why I have been brought here. They picked us all off the streets. They said gaadi mein baitho (sit in the van)," he said. The actor then added, "I thought it must be a very nice car from the inside, that's why they are excited." Imran claimed that he and others were driven around in a police van for around two hours before being dropped at an undisclosed location. Why were protesters detained?Imran was among more than 400 people detained by the Mumbai Police during an anti-Chief Election Commissioner protest at August Kranti Maidan and nearby Nana Chowk. The gathering had been called by Tushar Gandhi, Mahatma Gandhi's great-grandson, in support of the Campaign for Judicial Accountability and Reforms' demand for Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar's resignation. The protest was linked to concerns over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and allegations of voter-list manipulation. Tushar Gandhi was also detained while on his way to the proposed protest site and was later released.Police said August Kranti Maidan was not a designated protest venue under a Bombay High Court order and that preventive action was taken to maintain law and order. Additional personnel, including women officers, were deployed at Shivaji Park in Dadar to prevent another demonstration, while security was tightened at other locations across Mumbai. The CJP has also called for a demonstration at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi over the electoral roll revision and changes related to Form 6, which is used for voter registration.- Ends
