A whole nation's heart broke: Sonakshi Sinha shares CJP protest photos

Actor Sonakshi Sinha has once again voiced her support for education reformer Sonam Wangchuk and the ongoing Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest. On Tuesday, July 21, she shared a series of photographs from the July 20 protest on Instagram and reflected on the violence that marked the demonstration.Sharing the pictures, Sonakshi wrote, "20th July bohot logon ki haddiyaan tooti aur ek POORE DESH ka dil toota. Yaad rakhna. (July 20... many people suffered broken bones, and an entire nation's heart broke. Remember that)."Sonakshi's post came a day after violent clashes broke out during the CJP's 'Chalo Sansad' march in central Delhi. As protesters attempted to march towards Parliament on the opening day of the Monsoon Session, police used tear gas, lathi charges and anti-riot vehicles to disperse crowds at several locations, including Jantar Mantar, Shastri Bhawan, Rail Bhawan and Connaught Place.The actor has been among the few Bollywood celebrities to publicly back Wangchuk and the student-led movement. Her latest post comes days after Wangchuk was escorted away by police from Jantar Mantar in New Delhi in the early hours of July 18 while he was on a hunger strike. Soon after the incident, Sonakshi shared a video on Instagram criticising the police action and expressing relief that Wangchuk was safe."What happened with Sonam sir today wasn't right. I am glad that he's okay and that his wife is with him. He's strong, he's alert. Over the last few days, I have seen him and the thousands standing with him," she said. She also praised the students and young people participating in the protest, saying they had remained peaceful despite the circumstances."No matter what has been going on, they have stayed calm, respectful, and have kept their point forward without violence. We all know the country's strength is in its youth. Now, I feel like that's true after looking at them. Even after all the discomfort, disappointment and difficulties, the way you have held on to your beliefs, hats off to you," she added.Earlier, on July 16, Sonakshi had released another video in support of Wangchuk, expressing concern over his health as he continued his hunger strike."I've never given a statement out like this, but today we can't ignore him. Sonam Wangchuk. We all know him. We know what he has done for our country, what his achievements are and how many awards he has won," she had said.Referring to his fast, she added, "He is hungry. He hasn't eaten anything. For whom is he doing this? He is doing this for the future of children who lost their lives. He is fighting a system which is not working properly. I know this. You know this. We all know this."The Dahaad actor also questioned those who had remained silent on the issue."A lot many people are still silent. I can't stay silent. Whatever will happen, let it happen. No problem. I can't remain silent," she said, while urging the government to open a dialogue with Wangchuk. "Why is nobody listening? Nobody cares.
