A Violet Bridgerton prequel love story in works as Netflix announces new spin-off

Netflix has ordered a limited Bridgerton prequel centred on young Lady Violet and her romance with Edmund. Netflix has picked up a new limited-series spin-off of Bridgerton, this time taking viewers back to Violet’s younger years, long before she became the warm but watchful matriarch of the Bridgerton family.The untitled prequel will follow Violet’s early life and her romance with Edmund Bridgerton, the man she would eventually marry. It’ll be the second Bridgerton spin-off after Queen Charlotte, which explored the young queen’s romance with King George.There’s no word yet on who will play the younger Violet and Edmund. Ruth Gemmell has played Violet in the main series, while Connie Jenkins-Greig portrayed her younger self in Queen Charlotte.The new series will once again have Shonda Rhimes at the centre of things. Rhimes, along with Nicholas Nardini, will write and serve as showrunners. Tom Verica, who worked on Queen Charlotte, will direct and executive produce alongside Rhimes and Shondaland partner Betsy Beers. For fans of Violet, the prequel offers a chance to see a side of her that Bridgerton has only hinted at. She’s spent much of the series guiding her children through their own romances, while her own past has largely remained in the background.Now, the story is going back to the beginning.Bridgerton isn’t slowing down The expansion comes as Bridgerton remains one of Netflix’s biggest English-language hits. Its first and third seasons are among the streamer’s top 10 English-language series based on 13 weeks of global viewing. The fourth season, which premiered in January, spent nine weeks on Netflix’s weekly global top 10.And the main story isn’t going anywhere.Season five is currently in production and will focus on Francesca Bridgerton, played by Hannah Dodd, and Michaela Stirling, played by Masali Baduza. Netflix has also renewed the series through season six.Based on Julia Quinn’s novels, Bridgerton has already turned one family into a sprawling romantic universe. With Violet’s prequel, Netflix is now going even further back – to the love story that helped create the family at the heart of it all.- Ends
