A Tuberculosis Center Designed by Aino and Alvar Aalto is set to Become a Hotel

The iconic Paimio Sanatorium, a 1933 tuberculosis center designed by the legendary Finnish architects Alvar and Aino Aalto, is being transformed into a hotel, wellness space, and cultural center by Oslo-based Snøhetta. The renovation will include a forest-facing spa, a new auditorium, and guest rooms repurposed from the original patient wards, with the famous open balconies being restored. This project not only preserves the architectural heritage of modernist design but also breathes new life into the site, blending historical significance with modern functionality.
