We now have official confirmation that a new Star Trek project is in the works and slated for release in October 2027. While the release is still a year away, exciting details have already been revealed about what Trekkies can expect from this epic new chapter in the franchise, with perhaps the most tantalizing reveal being that a superstar name from the Star Wars franchise is joining the project, marking a major franchise first. Best known for his New York Times-bestselling Star Wars: Thrawn trilogy and his work as a creative consultant for the Disney+ miniseries Ahsoka, legendary science fiction and fantasy author Timothy Zahn is confirmed to be writing a new original Star Trek graphic novel, Star Trek: Roc’s Egg. While Zahn will be handling the writing, he’ll also be joined by celebrated comic artist Ángel Hernández, whose previous work includes Star Trek: Voyager – Homecoming, Godzilla: Here There Be Aliens, and Spider-Man. With this dynamic duo at the helm, Trekkies have plenty of reason to be excited about what could be an exceptional addition to Star Trek’s ever-growing legacy, and one that should be well worth the wait. In addition to confirming the October 2027 release date, IDW has also shared a slew of exciting details about the project with Screen Rant, all of which can be found below. Star Wars’ Thrawn Legend Joins Star Trek for New Project 'Roc’s Egg' (All Details Known) IDW’s official press release has revealed that Zahn and Hernández’s Star Trek: Roc’s Egg will be “a twisty new mystery set aboard Deep Space 9 where everyone has something to hide, and the truth may be more valuable than the treasure itself.” With confirmation that fans will be returning to Deep Space 9, this is more than exciting news, especially since we still haven't received any confirmation about which characters will star in this saga. Timothy Zahn has a reputation for shaping some of the most high-profile franchises, including Star Wars, though this will mark his first foray into the world of Star Trek. Since this will be an original graphic novel, fans can expect plenty of new faces, though that doesn’t necessarily rule out the return of iconic franchise characters. With that in mind, we could see the return of characters most closely associated with the station, including Sisko, Kira, Odo, Quark, Dax, Bashir, O'Brien, and Garak. Again, though, none of these characters have been officially confirmed and may not appear at all. What we can confirm is the official early synopsis for the graphic novel: “When a mysterious artifact known as a Roc’s Egg arrives on the station—and is seemingly destroyed in transit—a Federation JAG investigation is called in to uncover what really happened. But the deeper the team digs, the stranger the mystery becomes: a secret auction, a station full of wealthy collectors and dangerous criminals, a priceless artifact that may not be what it seems, and a murder waiting to happen.” This synopsis doesn’t give away the exact era or timeline of the story, so much remains a mystery about this graphic novel, which feels fitting given that the premise itself revolves around a mystery. Either way, it will be exciting to see what Zahn and Hernández bring to the Star Trek universe with this story. STAR TREK: ROC’S EGG from IDW Publishing will be available to buy in October 2027.
