A New Witcher Book Is in the Works, and It Might Be out Sooner than Expected

Those fans probably know by now that their favorite monster-hunting games are based on an iconic book series (as is the Netflix show), and they'll be glad to learn that author Andrzej Sapkowski has more up his sleeve. At a recent convention appearance in Poland, Sapkowski confirmed he's working on the next Witcher book and that he should be finished writing it by the end of 2027. According to Witcher news site Redanian Intelligence, expect it to once again star Geralt; Sapkowski said he doesn't intend to write any Witcher books about other characters, like Yennefer. Is another The Witcher prequel starring Geralt on the way? The latest The Witcher book was 2025's The Witcher: Crossroads of Ravens. It was a prequel about young Geralt's first big adventure as a Witcher. As Geralt is middle-aged during the short story collections and novels, there are plenty of years of his life left unexplored, and Sapkowski knows it. In an interview with IGN, he said, "Sky is the limit," when asked if there's room to delve further into Geralt's formative years in more prequels. He also said, "I am considering writing more short stories." The Witcher series began with a short story, and Sapkowski published two collections before the first novel, Blood of Elves. Still, he finds writing short stories to be a unique challenge. "It is not an easy thing to create a good short story. This is much more difficult than writing a novel," Sapkowski said. Whether the next The Witcher book stars a green Geralt or an experienced one, Sapkowski is aiming for it to be completed by the end of next year. As Redanian Intelligence noted, Polish readers could be reading the next The Witcher book by late 2027 or early 2028, if Sapkowski finishes it in time. Going by the Crossroads of Ravens release schedule, international readers could get their hands on it about a year later.
