A new vehicle and a top-end variant: What to expect from Mahindra in the next few days

Mahindra is set for a busy Independence Day, with the production-spec Scorpio Pikup debuting on August 14 and the BE 6 Sporteq following a day later with added tech.Mahindra will be introducing a new lifestyle pickup and an update for the BE 6.Mahindra has a habit of making Independence Day an occasion on its product calendar. Last year, the carmaker showcased its new modular platform alongside four concepts, offering a glimpse of its future product strategy. This year, Mahindra is moving closer to production, with two important updates lined up over August 14 and 15, a new lifestyle pickup and a new top-end variant of its electric SUV.Mahindra Scorpio Pikup to make global debutThe biggest reveal will be the production-spec Scorpio Pikup, which will make its global debut on August 14. The pickup traces its roots to the Global Pik Up concept showcased in 2023 and will be based on the Scorpio N's platform. However, Mahindra has made significant changes to turn the SUV architecture into a proper pickup. The wheelbase has been stretched to accommodate a larger cargo bed, while the exterior gets a design of its own rather than simply looking like a Scorpio N with its rear section replaced.Distinctive design and a premium cabinThe 40-second teaser provides the first official look at the production pickup. At the front, it gets slim LED headlamps positioned between L-shaped LED daytime running lights, vertically stacked fog lamps and an upright grille with a hexagonal pattern. A camera below the Mahindra logo also hints at a 360-degree camera system. The rear features C-shaped LED tail-lights and large Mahindra lettering across the tailgate. The teaser also shows newly designed alloy wheels and the pickup's substantial proportions, with a sizeable cargo bed behind the double-cab.Inside, the Scorpio Pikup appears more premium than conventional lifestyle pickups. A large portrait-oriented touchscreen dominates the dashboard, joined by a digital instrument cluster and a three-spoke steering wheel. Rotary controls for the dual-zone climate control and a dedicated drive-mode selector are also visible.Scorpio Pikup expected to get 4WD Mahindra has not revealed the final engine specifications yet, but the pickup is expected to use the company's mHawk diesel engine. Six-speed manual and automatic transmissions are likely to be offered, while four-wheel drive will be an important part of the package. The pickup is also expected to feature selectable drive modes for Normal, Grass-Gravel-Snow, Mud-Rut and Sand conditions. Features such as Level 2 ADAS, wireless smartphone connectivity, wireless charging, ventilated seats, powered front seats and driver drowsiness detection could further position it as a more premium lifestyle pickup.BE 6 Sporteq gets a triple-screen cabinMahindra's second major update will arrive on August 15 with the BE 6 Sporteq. The new variant will sit at the top of the BE 6 range and bring a major technology upgrade to the cabin. The biggest change is a new 12.3-inch screen for the front passenger. It joins the existing 12.3-inch driver display and central infotainment screen, creating a three-screen dashboard layout similar to Mahindra's larger electric SUVs.Sportier styling, same electric powertrainsThe teaser also reveals a matte exterior, brown upholstery and red ambient lighting. The dashboard has been redesigned around the additional display, giving the cabin a more technology-focused appearance. The BE 6 Sporteq is expected to retain the existing 59kWh and 79kWh battery options. The smaller battery produces 231bhp and 380Nm, while the larger unit develops 285bhp and 380Nm. Claimed MIDC range stands at up to 548km and 683km respectively.Mahindra is yet to reveal the complete equipment list and pricing, with those details expected at the August 15 reveal. The Sporteq will continue to compete with electric SUVs such as the Tata Sierra EV and Hyundai Creta Electric. Two days, two important Mahindra updatesWith the Scorpio Pikup arriving on August 14 and the BE 6 Sporteq following on August 15, Mahindra's Independence Day announcements this year mark a shift from concepts to products that are much closer to buyers. One brings the company into a new lifestyle pickup segment, while the other strengthens its electric SUV line-up with a more technology-heavy flagship variant.Subscribe to Auto Today Magazine - EndsPublished On: Aug 13, 2026 11:10 IST
