Streaming in the sky? Sign us up (Picture: Getty Images) Flying can be a fun experience, but frustratingly, Wi-Fi is not a guarantee, especially when it comes to budget short-haul airlines. But now, one British airline is making a change that’ll keep you connected to the breaking news of the day (TikToks). Low-cost airline easyJet, which flies to 38 countries, has announced that next year it will be introducing ‘the fastest Wi-Fi in the sky.’ EasyJet, which saw over 100 million passengers in 2025, has teamed up with SpaceX’s internet service Starlink to deploy Wi-Fi on flights from the first half of 2027. The rollout, which will be across the A320, A320neo and A321neo fleet, is due to be completed by early 2028, and will allow passengers to stream and browse from their own devices. This is the first time easyJet has offered this (Picture: Getty Images) This excludes the older Airbus A319 fleet, which easyJet is currently phasing out, with full retirement expected by the end of 2029. This marks the very first time easyJet has offered onboard internet to customers, beating out fellow budget airlines such as Ryanair and Jet2, who are yet to offer in-flight Wi-Fi. Promising to ‘further enhance the experience’ for easyJet customers, Kenton Jarvis, CEO at easyJet, said the airline understood that ‘in an increasingly digital world, staying connected matters more than ever to many of our customers’. ‘Giving customers the opportunity to get online in the air will mean even greater choice and convenience when you fly with easyJet. Ultimately, it’s yet another way we’re making travel easy,’ he added. Last chance! Gwynne Shotwell, president and chief operating officer of SpaceX, said: ‘We’re proud to bring Starlink onboard easyJet and transform the way their customers stay connected throughout their travels. ‘Fast, reliable connectivity from take-off to landing means people can work, stream, or stay in touch without interruption.’ They are partnering with SpaceX, which was founded by Elon Musk (Picture: Getty Images) What does this mean for my flight? Onboard passengers will be able to check real-time flight status via the easyJet app and explore destination guides through a dedicated website. EasyJet also hopes to roll out an interactive in-flight menu for direct ordering on personal devices. However, it looks like the Wi-Fi may come with a price tag attached, though the exact fee is yet to be revealed. Speaking to Metro, an easyJet spokesperson confirmed: ‘Access to connectivity will be managed by Starlink. As the first aircraft are Starlink-equipped, more details on access including pricing will be shared.’ Whether this could result in flight tickets increasing in price too is yet to be confirmed by the airline.
