A Link To The Past Is Being Revived For Zelda's 40th Anniversary

There are very few ongoing franchises that can say the same, in any medium, and fans are expecting big things from Nintendo as a result. The announcement of the Ocarina of Time Remake was obviously a huge deal for many, but with the celebrations yet to really start in earnest, there could be plenty more coming down the pipeline. While we wait to hear more about that from the developer themselves, one of the best games in the series to date is making a return, on a platform you almost certainly won't expect. Over on Twitter/X, the user yoshinokentarou shared a post confirming that The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past has been successfully ported over to the 3DS. The post reads (translated from the original Japanese): "Super Famicom's masterpiece "The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past" gets an unauthorized port to the "Nintendo 3DS" with a dual-screen setup! It retains the original's atmosphere while supporting 3DS features like upper and lower dual-screen display, touch controls, widescreen, and more. This project is apparently set to continue from here on out too!!" The dual-screen implementation is undoubtedly the most technically impressive aspect of the project, and it's easy to see why fans get frustrated at Nintendo for not efficiently bringing back old titles to the Switch 2, when technological roadblocks get in the way. As you might expect, there were plenty of excited comments from fans who were keen to play through the game again, with one saying, "It's a game that makes great use of the 3DS's dual-screen functionality. Even while playing, it's comfortable and easy to see. Among handheld consoles, the 3DS is the best." While another added, "It has perfect compatibility with the 3DS's dual screens! It's just like an official remake." The only thing you'll really want to make sure of is that you have a legitimate copy of the game somewhere, just to keep everything above board from a piracy perspective. At the same time, there's still plenty to look forward to for Zelda fans, with most expecting a dedicated Nintendo Direct in the next few months. That should cover everything from the upcoming movie adaptation to the aforementioned Ocarina of Time outing, in what could be an all-time great year for the series.
