A Dispute Over Screenwriting Credit Turns Heated in Neil LaBute’s ‘Murderous’ (Exclusive Clip)

How far would you go to get credit, or to defend your hard-won success? That’s the question at the heart of Murderous, the film from Neil LaBute. The dark comedy thriller stars Gia Crovatin (I Feel Pretty) as Marion, an up-and-coming screenwriter, whose debut feature has become a breakout success. But she gets an unwanted visit from her ex Norman, played by Thomas Sadoski (The Newsroom, John Wick), who accuses her of stealing his idea for the movie, and threatens to expose her. Things will not turn out well. Jordan Baker (The Americans, The Hunting Party) co-stars. The indie thriller was produced by Bad Pelican and Hard Ball Entertainment in association with Big Time Decent Productions. The Hollywood Reporter can unveil the first exclusive clip of the film, in which Marion and Norman fight it out. THR can also exclusively reveal the official poster for the film, which features Crovatin ominously cloaked in a blood-red parka, her face hidden in shadow. Murderous will have its world premiere at the Oldenburg International Film Festival, Germany’s leading indie film fest. LaBute, whose filmography includes In the Company of Men (1997), Your Friends & Neighbors (1998), Nurse Betty (2000), Some Velvet Morning (2013), and House of Darkness (2022), will also receive a lifetime achievement honor at the fest.
