A new type of Squad Building Challenge has landed in EA Sports FC 27, and it's supposed to make earning big rewards to upgrade your Ultimate Team much easier, but early signs suggest this is far from the truth. Streamlined SBCs focus on quantity over quality, as you aim to meet a total card value rather than ticking off objectives like you would in a normal SBC. The only issue is that the first two big Streamlined SBCs of FC 27 are both asking for far too much for very little in return. So, let's take a closer look at Streamlined SBCs and whether they're the answer to the SBC grind that EA hopes they are. What Is A Streamlined SBC? A Streamlined SBC is a new challenge that asks you to submit players to meet a total score, rather than multiple objectives based on nationality, team, or ratings. Each Streamlined SBC has a point target, and you can select any eligible players from your library, regardless of their rarity, to submit them as you try to achieve this target score. They're a mix between classic SBCs and the new Gallery feature in many ways. A Streamlined SBC can be identified in the menu by the point target displayed at the bottom of the page. A normal SBC will still say X/X completed, depending on how many tasks there are. EA laid out Streamlined SBCs as a less complicated alternative to regular SBCs, and the idea was to take the grind away and give players fewer restrictions to work with when trying to earn rewards for their team. Streamlined SBCs may still have some restrictions, but there are far fewer than a regular SBC. For instance, the first two major Streamlined SBCs in FC 27 only have the requirement that every player be rated over 45, something that's a given in Ultimate Team. Future Streamlined SBCs may call for specific subsets of players, like ones from certain leagues or nationalities, but they have not yet come into play. Issues With Streamlined SBCs So far, the main issue with Streamlined SBCs is that you have to give up more, not less, to complete them. With a 20,000-point target for the Bouaddi Ones to Watch or Ones to Watch player pick Streamlined SBC, you would need 10 85-rated players, worth 2,100 points each, to complete it. Of course, you could mix this up and have five 85-rated players, then pick a bunch of cheaper bronze players, but you can only submit 30 players per Streamlined SBC, meaning the idea that you can get rid of a ton of low-rated players to upgrade to much better ones is misleading. Player value is determined by the overall and then whether it's a base or special version of a card. So far, you would be giving up around the same for a typical one-shot SBC compared to the Streamlined ones, just with no restrictions or tertiary objectives to meet. The idea that these new SBCs were supposed to contribute to the Ultimate Team grind being reduced simply isn't being met, so unless changes are made, Streamlined SBCs aren't really worth the effort either.
