Established in 2024, the school draws on the 189-year legacy of Madras Christian College, founded in 1837, while developing a management programme for a changing business landscape.New Delhi,Oct 29, 2026 12:34 ISTAsk business school graduates what they wish they had learnt sooner, and the answer is seldom another framework or formula. It is how business actually works: how decisions are made under pressure, how teams respond when plans go wrong, and what happens when an idea meets a customer. At MCC Boyd Tandon School of Business in Chennai, that encounter with the real world is built into the way students learn.Established in 2024, the school draws on the 189-year legacy of Madras Christian College, founded in 1837, while developing a management programme for a changing business landscape. Its two-year, AICTE-approved PGDM rests on a simple premise: professional judgement develops not only by studying business, but by engaging with the people, decisions and institutions that make it work.Industry, built into the programme Industry engagement is not confined to guest lectures or a summer internship. Through the Short-Term Industry Engagement programme, first-year students attend classes in the morning and spend their afternoons inside a company for three to six months, beginning in the first trimester. They also work on live projects set by industry partners, developing suggestions or solutions to real business problems. The experience introduces them to how organisations function: how teams collaborate, decisions are made and everyday problems are resolved. The weekly Industry Readiness Programme builds on that experience. Students follow business news, research companies and sectors, and present and defend a point of view. The emphasis is on learning to interpret information, form a judgement and communicate it with clarity. The classroom is strengthened by Professors of Practice drawn from industry as well as global institutions, bringing professional experience and international perspectives into students’ learning. A collaboration with NYU Shanghai adds another dimension through a programme focused on building sound judgement in an AI-shaped world. The challenge is not simply learning to use new tools, but knowing how to assess their outputs, recognize their limitations and decide when human judgement must take the lead.Working with the MCC MRF Innovation ParkThe Venture Creation course gives students the opportunity to work with the MCC MRF Innovation Park (MMIP), which offers mentoring, incubation support, prototyping facilities and industry networks. They explore problem statements, consider potential solutions and learn what it takes to start a business. Students with a startup idea can develop it further with support from MMIP.Not every student will become a founder, nor is that the expectation. The experience of trying to create and sell something can change how students read a balance sheet, assess a market or understand a customer.Learning who business is forSocial Immersion takes students beyond the corporate setting. For four weeks across December and January, they work with communities, non-profits and social impact organisations at the grassroot level. Working alongside people whose everyday challenges may be invisible from a corporate office, students encounter a different measure of leadership. The underlying idea is straightforward: business ultimately affects people, and that reality belongs in management education. A trading floor and a boardroomThe school’s labs turn concepts into decisions. The NSE SMART Lab, set up with NSE Academy, the education arm of the National Stock Exchange, recreates a live-market environment on student terminals, using real-time data across equities and derivatives. Students build portfolios and test strategies without putting real money at risk. The AIMA BizLab, from the All-India Management Association, applies simulation to general management. Students run competing companies and see how choices ripple through a business. Both labs give students room to experiment, make mistakes and see the consequences of their decisions before they face similar choices at work.Global standardsThe school is accredited by ACCA, the global body for professional accountants, and students can pursue the ACCA qualification alongside the PGDM, with exemptions from up to nine of its 13 papers. A pathway with the Institute of Management Accountants allows finance-focused students to work towards the US Certified Management Accountant (CMA) credential.MCC Boyd Tandon is also a member of AACSB, the international association of business schools, and is building towards AACSB accreditation. The overall approach is beginning to receive recognition. In the Outlook-ICARE Rankings 2027, the school was ranked fourth in India among Private B-Schools with Potential for Excellence—a notable result for an institution in its third year.Taken together, the programme is designed to produce graduates who have seen organisations from the inside, tried to build something of their own, worked with communities and practiced making decisions in realistic business settings. The aim is not just to give students business knowledge, but to help them understand how organisations operate, how people shape outcomes and how decisions carry consequences.Admissions are now open.Disclaimer: “The material, content, and/or information contained within this impact feature are published strictly for advertorial purposes.
