A 19th-century haveli in Jaipur ranks in World's 50 Best hotels (extended) list

The World's 50 Best Hotels has released its extended list from 51-100. This is a coveted global list that recognises and celebrates a spectrum of some of the finest hospitality experiences.This year, two hospitality properties, both from Rajasthan, have made the cut. And one of them is an old haveli turned boutique hotel.A 19th-century-old haveliThe Johri, located in the famous Johri Bazaar (jewellers' market) in Jaipur, ranks at the 94th spot on the extended list. This boutique stay was once known as the Lal Haveli. It is regarded as an old historical building that served "a pivotal centre during the pre-independence state rule, as well as the Indian Freedom Movement," according to the website. The Michelin Guide, long synonymous with fine-dining excellence, extended its expertise to hotels with the launch of the Michelin Keys in 2025. The Johri in Jaipur was among the Indian properties recognised with a coveted One Michelin Key for its distinctive character, design and refined hospitality.This property has only eight suites that speak of the royal heritage of the walled city. A one-night stay for two adults in one of these suites may cost approximately Rs 32K (prices may vary depending on the date and time of the booking).A hotel looking over Lake Pichola The other hotel that made it to the list was The Oberoi Udaivilas in Udaipur which secured the 98th position. It is a luxury property spanning over 30 acres of land on the banks of Lake Pichola. The sprawling property has landscaped gardens, courtyards, multiple dining spaces, a spa and a pool, along with rooms and suites overlooking the lake and gardens. A night here starts at around Rs 44,000, for two adults, depending on the room and dates.And this isn’t the only time Indian hospitality has caught international attention. Earlier, Prix Versailles named The Oberoi Rajgarh Palace in Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh, among the World's Most Beautiful Hotels 2026, while Pune's Rosso featured on its World's Most Beautiful Restaurants 2026 list.And well, this is the age where travellers often travel for the stay and not always so much for the destination.
