However, rather than the lighthearted version played by Emily Blunt and Julie Andrews, the planned TV show will move closer to the version that's depicted in the novels: darker, more mysterious, even magical and occasionally frightening. The project is being developed by Tom Winchester for the independent production company Pure Fiction Television. He is developing the potential series on behalf of the trustees of the P.L. Travers estate, since Travers created the iconic character. As of now, there are very early discussions going on with Disney, and top showrunners are being eyed to spearhead the darker adaptation. The reporting indicates that Disney's approval is not required for the new Mary Poppins to move forward. The hope is that Disney will be involved. But in any case, the fresh take on Poppins is still said to be in the “pitch stage.” More to come...
