90S POPSTAR Darren Day today revealed he secretly relapsed earlier this year, after being sober for over six years. The West End star, 58, has been very open and honest over the years about his ongoing addiction issues, which once saw him spending £2,000 a week on cocaine. Speaking candidly on Good Morning Britain, Darren, who is back in the West End starring in Million Dollar Quartet, said: “It was a very tough time. Revealing why he decided to open up about his latest setback, the dad-of-three candidly said: “Out of respect for my kids because I have made a promise with my kids that I will never lie about my sobriety.” Darren continued: “A relapse doesn’t have to be the end, it doesn’t mean that all the hard work that you’ve done counts for nothing, as long as you pick yourself up and get straight back on the horse. “I’ll be honest with you, I am stronger in my sobriety now than I ever have been – and I will be five months (sober) next week.” Darren’s last relapse was during Covid, when he said his mental health suffered a blow when work started being cancelled because of lockdown. Darren previously admitted during Celebrity Big Brother in 2016 that he was told during a rehab stint in 2001 that he would be dead within six months if he did not give up drugs.
