9 Best Spider-Man Characters Still Missing From The MCU After Brand New Day

Sign in to your ScreenRant account Despite the MCU's Spider-Man building out its roster over the last decade, there are still a number of major characters missing from the franchise. Ever since Tom Holland debuted as Spider-Man in 2016's Captain America: Civil War, the character has been making big waves throughout all of Earth-616 alongside iconic friends and foes from the comics and earlier adaptations. A handful of these characters have been updated and altered in some ways to better fit the tone of the MCU, and to keep the audience on their toes, such as Zendaya's Michelle Jones, who was revealed to be the MCU's version of MJ when the character revealed her last name was actually Jones-Watson, making her MJ Watson. That being said, there are still several major characters from the world of Spider-Man who have yet to make an appearance in the MCU. Thankfully, with plans to expand Peter Parker's story in at least another two solo outings after Spider-Man: Brand New Day, there is plenty of time to bring these characters to the big screen. Gwen Stacy Peter Parker has only had two romantic connections in the MCU to date, with the first being the daughter of Adrian Toomes, Liz, in Spider-Man: Homecoming, and his extraordinary and heartbreaking relationship with MJ ever since. But Spidey has always had one other great love from the comics who stands out from the rest: Gwen Stacy. Gwen has appeared in live-action previously opposite Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man in The Amazing Spider-Man films, before her tragic death in those films, and she also has a prominent role in the animated Spider-Verse movies as Miles Morales' guide to the Spider-Verse and romantic interest. While Holland's Peter Parker may still be pining for MJ's memories to return, there is room to explore this connection in the MCU, as long as they can find the right actress to tackle this comprehensive role that is absolutely bursting with potential for the future of the franchise. Harry Osborn In Spider-Man: No Way Home, Peter Parker faced off against the terrifying Norman Osborn, aka Green Goblin, though this was a version of the character from the Sam Raimi universe of films. It seems as though, up to this point, there hasn't been a massively successful and wealthy individual called Osborn on Earth-616, or at least not one with a skyscraper in New York. But, if the MCU finds a way to bring the Osborns into the story, whether that comes after the events of Avengers: Secret Wars or otherwise, it would open the door for another incredible character to join the lineup in the form of Norman's son, Harry Osborn. Harry is initially portrayed as a close friend to Peter Parker, but eventually, the character takes up the mantle of his father to become the Green Goblin in many continuations of the story. Seeing this arc play out in the MCU would no doubt be fascinating. Roderick Kingsley Alternatively, Peter already has a dear friend whose destiny is to become a villain, or at least that is true in the comics. Ned Leeds is another character who initially appears as a friend to Peter until eventually becoming the Hobgoblin, which is a separate and distinct supervillain from the world of Spider-Man, but he wasn't the first character to hold that mantle. Originally, Roderick Kingsley is the character who steals Norman's Green Goblin equipment, before modifying it and becoming a new villain who identifies as the Hobgoblin. Then, Roderick manages to brainwash or manipulate Ned Leeds to take on the moniker and fight against his old ally, leading to a tragic end for the character. Robbie Robertson Another important character from Spider-Man's long history is Robbie Robertson, who recently appeared opposite Nicolas Cage in Spider-Noir, as played by Lamorne Morris. This character is often the counterbalance to J. Jonah Jameson, also working at the Daily Bugle, and often serving as the editor-in-chief for the paper who pulls Jameson back when he gets too hot-headed. While we have seen J. Jonah Jameson in the MCU, played by the incredible JK Simmons, we have yet to see Robbie Robertson. That being said, the MCU has also considerably altered The Daily Bugle, which seems to be an online video series, and Peter Parker's line of work, with no clear answer to how exactly Peter gets money to get by. Felicia Hardy Another potential love interest for Peter Parker, though this time a much more dangerous and nefarious partner, Felicia Hardy, aka Black Cat, is a popular character from the comics and video games who often has a lasting connection with the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. Felicia Hardy has often been introduced as a burglar with feline-like agility and acrobatic skill. Initially, she comes into conflict with Spider-Man, but after the two spark up a fiery and passionate relationship, she becomes an anti-heroine who occasionally steps up to help the web-head out of a tough spot. The world of the MCU is certainly vast enough to include this type of character, especially in the increasingly peculiar street-level world of New York City, which is why she could be a great character to introduce after the breakdown of Peter and MJ's relationship. Eddie Brock Image via Sony While Tom Hardy's unstable Eddie Brock did make a brief cameo in the post-credits scene of Spider-Man: No Way Home, we have yet to see a proper MCU version of Eddie Brock. In most iterations of Spider-Man, Eddie loses his job as a reporter after Peter Parker exposes him for creating fake stories. This creates tension between the two, and when Brock comes into contact with the alien life-form known as Venom, a symbiosis occurs that transforms him into a supervillain to rival Spider-Man. This story was largely depicted in Spider-Man 3, with Topher Grace playing Brock, but with the other changes from the MCU, it would be interesting to see how a Venom and Brock story plays out in this much larger universe of stories. Cletus Kasady Another alien symbiote known as Carnage is a fan-favorite for those familiar with the Spider-Man cartoons from the 1990s. When a serial killer by the name of Cletus Kasady combines with a red symbiote, they become the menacing Carnage, one of the most dangerous and volatile villains in Spider-Man's rogues' gallery. While this character did appear in Sony's Venom: Let There Be Carnage, played by Woody Harrelson, the less said about that version, the better. Instead, this character should be properly depicted, and the MCU could be the perfect vehicle to do just that. Miles Morales Miles Morales is one of only a few characters to ever hold the title of Spider-Man, and in recent years, he has gained a great deal of prominence thanks to his central role in the Spider-Verse films. But long before the Spider-Verse, the MCU set up the arrival of Miles Morales when Donald Glover introduced himself as Aaron Davis in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Aaron Davis became the villain known as Prowler in comics, video games, and the animated films that also feature Miles Morales. Aaron is also the paternal uncle of Miles. Combining this with the fact that Aaron mentions a nephew in Spider-Man: Homecoming appears to confirm Miles Morales is a part of the MCU, but audiences have yet to meet him. Uncle Ben Finally, last but certainly not least, one of the most important and influential characters in almost every Spider-Man story ever told remains largely absent from the MCU, and that is, of course, Uncle Ben. Due to the fact that Tom Holland's Spider-Man did not have his origin story play out on screen, we never got to meet Uncle Ben. Now, Uncle Ben is confirmed to have passed away by Aunt May, and the role of mentor was filled by characters like May, Tony Stark, and even two alternate versions of Peter Parker in the MCU, but it would be great to meet the character at some point. Whether that comes through a flashback or something more timey-wimey, it feels like a major miss to never get a look at this incredible character.
