8 Superhero Teams Stronger Than The X-Men

It's not just that there are godlike powers such as Storm, Phoenix, Iceman and Magneto on the roster, but the fact that there are over a hundred mutants who have served on the team at one time or another. However, across the hundreds of thousands of comics that have been published and decades of storytelling, there ARE a select few teams who are more powerful than the X-Men. For this list, we're exploring the superteams who could overpower the X-Men, taking into account modern power levels but ignoring temporary upgrades and power-ups from outside sources (so no full-Phoenix Jean, Eternal Storm Ororo or Crystal of Ultimate Vision Wolverine.) The Justice Legion | Assembled by Grant Morrison and Howard Porter Notable Members: The Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman of the 853rd Century In DC's distant 853rd Century, future heroes including the Venusian Wonder Woman, Neptunian Aquaman and Plutonian Batman carry on the heroic legacies of the modern-day Justice League, safeguarding a populated solar system as the Justice Legion Alpha. Each member of the Justice Legion Alpha possesses a genius intellect and telepathic abilities (both the norm in the far future) as well as the abilities of their namesake dialed up to eleven. The Justice Legion's Superman has all Clark Kent's powers plus the ability to control machines, '5D senses' and immunity to magic; Batman has the tech to turn invisible, generate holographic illusions and access the fighting skills and tactical insight of all previous versions of the Dark Knight; and Aquaman can control the oceans themselves. And that's just 'Justice Legion Alpha' - the highest ranking of more than TWENTY sub-teams who make up the full 'Justice Legion.' The X-Men shouldn't even bother to turn up. The Scorched | Assembled by Todd McFarlane, Sean Lewis, Stephen Segovia and Paulo Siqueira Notable Members: Spawn, Redeemer, Gunslinger Spawn Image Comics' Spawn universe deals in frankly ridiculous levels of power, with Spawn alone having beaten God and Satan at the same time. Spawn possesses demi-god-level strength and speed, with a shapeshifting costume that can send people to hell and magic abilities that can control the four elements, teleport across dimensions and weaponize the spirits of the dead. The Scorched roster includes multiple members on Spawn's level, including the literal angel Redeemer and specialist Hellspawn combatants Medieval Spawn and Gunslinger Spawn, all essentially immune to telepathy and with healing factors that make Wolverine look D-list. The Green Lantern Corps | Assembled by John Broome and Gil Kane Notable Members: Hal Jordan, Sodam Yat, Mogo, Leezle Pon DC's Green Lantern Corps are likely to be the most controversial entry on this list, but their supremacy is also pretty undeniable. While the X-Men usually have numbers on their side, the Corps boasts around 7200 members, each capable of manifesting pretty much anything they can imagine. That could be mech suits or giant boxing gloves, but in the past solo Lanterns have unleashed everything from superhuman armies to a literal sun (indeed, John Stewart alone created an entire solar system.) With tens of Lanterns to each mutant, all able to combine their power for superstrong energy constructs, it's unlikely Marvel's mutants could prosper. And that's before you consider the unique abilities of specific Lanterns like Sodam Yat (who has similar powers to Superman), Leezle Pon (a living virus who can infiltrate the human body) and Mogo (a literal planet who can manipulate gravity.) The Defenders | Assembled by Roy Thomas and Ross Andru Notable Members: The Hulk, Doctor Strange, Silver Surfer, Namor the Sub-Mariner The Defenders are Marvel's reluctant 'non-team' who only assemble when the planet itself is in trouble. Members like Valkyrie and Nighthawk bring their own skills and strengths, but this one is all about the core quartet... in fact, it's all about the Hulk. Hulk's strength scales with his rage, and it has no realistic upper limit. The recent Hulk: Smash Everything (Ryan North, Vicenzo Carratù) confirmed he can survive everything from the asteroid that wiped out the dinosaurs to being trapped in a black hole, with an upper strength threshold sufficient to destroy the planet and batter Galactus. Array the Sorcerer Supreme, a reality-warping alien and the strongest man on land or sea behind him, and the X-Men don't measure up. The God Squad | Assembled by Greg Pak, Fred van Lente and Rafa Sandoval Notable Members: Galactus, Thor, Bast, Hercules When reality itself is in danger, Marvel's gods put their differences aside to fight as one. This is a surprisingly close call, but the reality-manipulating abilities of the Silver Surfer and Galactus mean the X-Men's powers are unavoidably overshadowed. Wielding the Power Cosmic, they can transform matter (living or non-living), teleport their enemies to other dimensions, and alter the memories and emotions of their targets. Other members include Atum (a god-eating predator who retains the abilities of all the deities he consumes), Sersi (who can transmute matter into nearly any form, including new life) and the Chaos King Amatsu-Mikaboshi, whose dark magic has slaughtered multiple divine pantheons. The Union of Justice | Assembled by Mark Millar and Frank Quitely Notable Members: The Utopian, Skyfox, Brainwave Millarworld's Jupiter's Legacy/Circle universe stars some of the most powerful superheroes in fiction. The big difference is that unlike the X-Men, each member of the Union has a whole suite of superpowers. Each member of the team basically has the powers (and power level) of Superman, with the Utopian and Skyfox also boasting telekinesis and Brainwave possessing telekinesis that would make Jean Grey blush. Their intellects were likewise enhanced by the mysterious aliens who gave them their powers, with Skyfox able to quickly construct gadgets that confer superpowers on others. Every member of the Quintessence is officially powerful enough to kill Darkseid solo. The X-Men's only advantage is numbers and that doesn't apply to the team at their height, when their various offspring comprised a superhuman army in the hundreds (who eventually turned against them.) The Quintessence | Assembled by Mark Waid and Alex Ross Notable Members: Ganthet, Highfather, Hera, The Wizard DC's ultimate superteam comprises five beyond-godlike entities charged with witnessing all events in the multiverse, only stepping in when reality as a whole is threatened. Members include the Wizard who gave Shazam his powers, the current leader of the Greek gods, and Darkseid's benevolent opposite Highfather. As stated in the recent DC All In Special #1 (Joshua Williamson, Scott Snyder, Daniel Sampere, Dan Mora), every member of the Quintessence is powerful enough to kill Darkseid solo. The team command the Spectre - the reality-warping embodiment of God's wrath - as their herald. The Ultimate Ultimates | Assembled by Al Ewing and Filipe Andrade Notable Members: Infinity, Eternity, The Never Queen As the (terrible) name suggests, the Ultimate Ultimates are Marvel's most powerful superteam. Each member is the embodiment of a different cycle of reality, with the twin entities Eternity and Infinity representing the current Marvel Universe. Each entity wields all powers and abilities of every element of their version of reality - yes, that means Eternity and Infinity literally encompass every member of the X-Men, the Defenders and the God Squad. This team have only been known to assemble to oppose the First Firmament - the living remnant of the first version of reality and creator of the Celestials, who wants to destroy everything else so he can once again reign supreme.
