After being bitten by a radioactive spider, Peter gained superhuman strength, speed, agility, durability, wall-crawling abilities and his iconic Spider-Sense. Decades of experience have only made the original Spider-Man more dangerous, but the multiverse has produced several versions that push those abilities to completely different levels. Some alternate Spider-Men simply possess greater physical strength, while others combine Peter's powers with the abilities of characters such as the Hulk, Ghost Rider and even cosmic entities. From a monstrous dinosaur to a Spider-Man capable of wielding the Power Cosmic, these eight variants demonstrate just how powerful the Wall-Crawler can become when the rules surrounding his abilities are dramatically changed. 8 Kaine Kaine Parker originated during the infamous Clone Saga as one of Peter Parker's earliest and most dangerous clones. Unlike Ben Reilly, Kaine was physically unstable and developed increasingly severe mutations because of the imperfect cloning process. Rather than remaining a straightforward duplicate of Peter, his body continued changing, giving him physical abilities that eventually surpassed those of the original Spider-Man. Kaine's heightened strength, stamina and durability make him an exceptionally dangerous opponent, but his most distinctive advantage is his precognitive ability. His version of Spider-Sense has occasionally provided visions of possible future events, giving him information beyond Peter's normal danger detection. After becoming the monstrous Scarlet Spider known as the Other, Kaine became even more powerful and physically imposing. 7 Spider-Rex Spider-Rex, whose prehistoric identity is Pter Ptarker, takes the idea of a Spider-Man variant to an appropriately ridiculous extreme. Introduced in Edge of Spider-Verse (Vol. 2) #1 in August 2022, this version comes from Earth-66 and is essentially a Tyrannosaurus Rex possessing spider-based abilities. His origin involves an extraterrestrial spider-bearing meteorite that transformed the prehistoric creature. Even before gaining spider powers, a Tyrannosaurus would have represented an enormous physical threat. Spider-Rex combines that tremendous size and bite force with Spider-Man's agility, wall-crawling and enhanced abilities, creating a version that is vastly more physically imposing than Peter Parker. His appearance in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse also turned one of Marvel's strangest variants into a memorable multiversal character. 6 Spider-Carnage Spider-Carnage represents what happens when Peter Parker's cloning history collides with one of Marvel's most dangerous symbiotes. The identity belongs to Ben Reilly, Peter's clone, after he becomes bonded with the Carnage symbiote. The result combines Spider-Man's physical abilities and intelligence with the unpredictable powers of Carnage, creating a version considerably more dangerous than either a conventional Spider-Man or an ordinary symbiote host. Carnage dramatically expands the abilities available to Spider-Carnage. The symbiote can generate blades, tendrils and projectiles from its body while also providing enhanced durability and regeneration. More importantly, symbiotes traditionally possess an advantage against Spider-Sense because their movements are difficult for Spider-Man's precognitive instincts to detect. That makes Spider-Carnage particularly troublesome for anyone relying on Peter's usual defensive abilities. 5 Ghost Spider The Ghost Spider of Earth-11638 is one of the strangest examples of a Spider-Man variant acquiring power from other versions of himself. This Peter Parker initially gained extraordinary abilities by absorbing the powers of Spider-Men from alternate dimensions. Rather than simply becoming a stronger version of the familiar hero, he accumulated abilities that fundamentally changed his power level and eventually put him on a cosmic scale. His transformation became even more extreme after Peter died and was resurrected with the powers of Ghost Rider. This gave Ghost Spider supernatural abilities that ordinary Spider-Man simply does not possess, including Hellfire manipulation and mystical powers associated with the Spirit of Vengeance. Even Spider-Man's already impressive agility becomes considerably more dangerous when combined with Hulk-level strength. 3 Zombie Spider-Man The Spider-Man of Earth-2149 is one of Marvel's most horrifying alternate versions of Peter Parker. First appearing in Ultimate Fantastic Four #22 in August 2005, Zombie Spider-Man becomes infected during the outbreak depicted in Marvel Zombies. Unlike a normal zombie, however, Peter retains his intelligence, memories and superhuman abilities while developing an uncontrollable hunger for human flesh. His undead condition provides several advantages in combat because conventional injuries and pain no longer affect him in the same way. However, Zombie Spider-Man becomes truly extraordinary after consuming part of the Silver Surfer and gaining access to the Power Cosmic. That energy grants him abilities far beyond conventional Spider-Man powers, including energy manipulation and other cosmic capabilities, allowing him to challenge enemies on a completely different level. 2 Secret Wars Spider-Man Image via Marvel Comics The Spider-Man featured in Marvel's original Secret Wars storyline is frequently associated with one of Peter Parker's most important transformations: his acquisition of the black alien costume. However, the story does not actually give Spider-Man the Beyonder's omnipotence, omniscience or omnipresence. Instead, the significance of this version comes from the alien symbiote itself, which enhances Peter's physical capabilities and eventually becomes one of his greatest threats. The black suit increases Spider-Man's abilities while creating organic webbing and responding directly to Peter's thoughts. It also dramatically changes the way Peter operates, allowing him to produce webs without the mechanical web-shooters he normally relies upon. Although this version is not stronger than cosmic variants such as Captain Universe Spider-Man, the symbiote suit establishes a dangerous power boost that later becomes central to Spider-Man mythology. 1 Cosmic Spider-Man Cosmic Spider-Man is arguably the clearest example of Peter Parker being transformed from a superhuman street-level hero into a cosmic powerhouse. This version, associated with Earth-13, gains the Enigma Force and becomes a host of Captain Universe. The Uni-Power dramatically amplifies Peter's existing abilities while granting him powers that operate on an entirely different scale from the original Spider-Man. The results are staggering. Cosmic Spider-Man possesses enormous physical strength, extreme durability, flight, energy manipulation and matter manipulation, while his Spider-Sense becomes vastly more powerful. He has demonstrated enough strength to send the Grey Hulk into orbit and possesses cosmic awareness that ordinary Spider-Man could never approach. With the Enigma Force behind him, Peter becomes less like a conventional superhero and more like a cosmic entity capable of confronting threats across the multiverse.
