I went with the four-seat modular corner iteration (priced at $4,725) and added on a storage seat for an additional $200. Extra-deep seats are another available upgrade for $1,175 more (bringing the grand total up to $5,900, for anyone keeping track). Financing options are available via ShopPay and Affirm.What are the upholstery or customization options? Did you choose any?Customization is crucial to 7th Avenue’s branding, with lots of options based on style preferences and space limitations. Because I have two young kids and a dog, I needed a dark, family-friendly couch to (hopefully) hide any stains. Still, the brand claims their upholstery is water- and stain-resistant, featuring removable and washable covers. I chose a chocolate brown velvet, which looks and feels luxurious but withstands heavy use.What is the lead time for customization, manufacturing, and delivery?The couch shipped very quickly within a week of placing the order, and was delivered to my home about a week after, for a total of about two weeks lead time.Delivery & AssemblyPhoto: Meg KernahanPhoto: Meg KernahanWhat was the delivery process like?My order shipped with 7th Avenue’s white-glove service, but standard delivery with a signature is also available (the brand even details weights for all its furniture components so there are no surprises day of). The process was incredibly smooth from start to end. It began with a friendly phone call from their team to coordinate a firm delivery date and time (I live in the mountains, so it can be challenging to deliver large items to my house). Upon the arrival of the sectional, I was surprised to see only one team member—thinking my husband would have to help—but he was able to handle the boxes completely by himself! Shipping is priced at $149, and assembly is an additional $299 to $549, depending on your location.What was the assembly process like? How long did it take and how many people?The initial setup took the professional delivery person about an hour and a half. I have a feeling if my husband and I were left to fend for ourselves, it would have cost us a full afternoon (and likely would have led to a few arguments). After I photographed it in beige, the delivery guy swapped out the covers to chocolate brown for me. He showed me how to disassemble the couch and remove the covers, simply by turning the couch on its back and unscrewing each section apart from each other. Would it be better suited for a different type of home?The couch I selected has a large footprint—132" L x 86" W x 24" H—since I wanted something that could comfortably seat at least four adults. An L-shaped sectional was at the top of my wish list, and I have already claimed the corner seat as my own. I appreciate that the modular design lets you customize the size and shape to best fit your space and specific needs. As I previously mentioned, deeper seats are an optional add-on, but I personally found the standard depth to be a perfect size. Even though the couch is entirely customizable, it is pretty large by default, so it is better suited for larger spaces. My living room has an open-concept layout, extending to the dining room and kitchen, so a large sofa matches the scale of the space well.Sit Test: Is it comfortable? Does it feel well made? Does the couch have a tendency to sag?After a month of testing, I haven’t noticed any sagging. The cushions are firm without sacrificing comfort, and I can sink into it and still feel supported. I love burrowing into the corner seat after a long day, and also that the sectional comes with additional fill for the cushions, so you can adjust it based on your preference.Lying down test: Is it comfortable? Does it feel well made? Does the couch have a tendency to sag?My family has already enjoyed several naps on this incredibly comfy couch. My husband and I can each lie down on either side of the couch at the same time without having to drape our legs over each other (we’re both about 5' 8"), so there is plenty of room to sprawl out and get comfortable. It’s notably deep enough for a full night’s sleep (or a solid nap), especially with the back cushions removed.Is the sectional suitable for particular decor styles and if so, which?This sectional has a very versatile look that can work with many different styles. The sleek, no-frills design makes it a perfect backdrop for other elements in the room to stand out. My style leans organic modern with a touch of midcentury, and it blends with my aesthetic well.Photo: Meg KernahanIs it durable/practical in a modern home?Since the materials are designed to be stain-resistant and water-repellant, this couch perfectly suits our tendency to eat and drink in the living room. The sofa is also constructed with solid hardwood and features steel reinforcements, making it incredibly durable and long-lasting. But just in case we do push it to the limit, or my design taste changes, I’m able to swap out the fabric for a fresh look at any time, which further extends the lifetime of the piece.Is the couch kid- and/or dog-friendly?The performance fabric makes this an excellent choice for a kid- and dog-inhabited home. I have a baby, toddler, and dog, and all of us love it so far. The upholstered frame is soft and durable—my kids have already put it through the ringer, bumping into it, launching themselves off of it, and using the cushions to build forts. Another big plus for me is that the fabrics are OEKO-TEX certified and free of “forever chemicals” such as PFAS, so I can feel at ease as my kids roll around on it. One thing to note is that dog hair is very visible on the material—my dog’s white hairs are particularly stark against the dark brown fabric. That said, it is easy to wipe down the cushions with a microfiber towel to remove the dog hair (a vacuum works fine too).What are the care and cleaning instructions? Do you think stains could be easily removed?The 7th Avenue site claims the performance fabrics “have the ability to withstand and temporarily repel everyday household spills,” so I put it to the test. An initial splash of water was repelled immediately off the cushion, but as I continued to pour water on it, that moisture started to absorb. I was able to quickly wipe it down without much effort. The cushion covers are also removable and washable to help get out any stains or other food that my toddler accidentally crushed into the fabric. Plus, there is always the option to get a new set of covers if it ever comes to that (something I may have to consider with how crazy my kids are).Do the photos do this product justice? Was there anything you were surprised to see IRL?The chocolate brown color looks much more luxurious in person than it does online!
