79-year-old man cycles across Jamshedpur to deliver parcels, finds joy in people

An Instagram video shows a 79-year-old man speaking about delivering parcels across Jamshedpur for more than three decades on the job. (Photos: Instagram/@mahimabhalotia)A 79-year-old man still cycles across Jharkhand’s Jamshedpur delivering parcels, but it is what he says about the people he meets that makes his story special.Instagram user Mahima Bhalotia shared a video of her interaction with CK Mukherjee, the elderly courier worker, saying she had seen him delivering parcels for a long time but had never known much about his life.In the video, Bhalotia asked, “Uncle, how old are you?”“Seventy-nine,” he replies. When asked about his profession, Mukherjee said he works in a courier service. He also revealed that he has been associated with DTDC Courier for more than three decades. During the conversation, he mentioned the span of his tenure: 33 years!Till date, Mukherjee continues to cycle across Jamshedpur, covering different parts of the city while making deliveries. He spoke about his work with an enthusiasm that surprised Bhalotia, who described it as simple work that he genuinely enjoyed. The 79-year-old also spoke about undergoing eye surgery. According to Bhalotia, Mukherjee said his doctor had assured him that his health and body were in good condition and encouraged him to continue with his routine.But it was something Mukherjee said about the people he met during his deliveries that stayed with Bhalotia.“He happened to mention that he went in for an eye surgery and the doctor told him that his health, his body is perfectly fine and that he should keep doing exactly what he’s doing,” she wrote.She said Mukherjee then spoke about the “love and respect” he receives from people he delivers parcels to, which keeps him happily going about his work.“He keeps selflessly delivering couriers to each household, finding joy in talking to us youngsters and leading life with integrity and grace,” Bhalotia wrote.Her post turned the interaction into a reflection on finding happiness in ordinary routines. Describing Mukherjee as someone with “so little and yet finding so much joy”, she contrasted his outlook with the constant pursuit of more.“And here we are, with so much and still searching for happiness, yearning for gratitude,” she wrote.Watch the video here:Ending with a gentle reminder, Bhalotia asked: “However privileged, however tired we are, maybe it was never about having more?”People couldn’t stop gushing at the wholesome interaction. ‘He is so inspiring.
