Sign in to your ScreenRant account DC's Green Lantern lore exploded in the early 2000s, as Geoff Johns' legendary run introduced the idea of the Emotional Spectrum - Lanterns of every color, each drawing on a different emotion for their unique set of powers. However, not every Lantern color is equal. Some Power Rings grant their users subtle abilites, while others are packed with raw power. For this list, we're focusing on the latter. Pretty much every color of Lantern is granted flight, forcefields and energy constructs, but to make it onto this list, you've got to offer something a little extra... Black Lantern Corps As a combined force, the Black Lantern Corps are one of the deadliest groups in the galaxy, far surpassing any other Corps. Each Black Power Ring attaches to a corpse, resurrecting them as part of a demonic hivemind that serves Nekron. Individual Black Lanterns can heal from any injury, and can only be destroyed by the combination of a Green Lantern and another aspect of the Emotional Spectrum. Black Lantern zombies feed on the emotions of others, tearing out their hearts only after they've brought a part of the emotional spectrum to the surface. To that end, they have access to the memories of the beings they possess, as well as any superpowers or enhanced skills, tending to only summon construct-weapons that their host was familiar with in life. Despite all this, Black Lantern Rings fall relatively low in our ranking - their powers are dangerous but specialist, and they output far less raw energy than other entries on this list. However, that may be about to change, as DC reveals Superman will soon become a new Black Lantern. Red Lantern Corps Positioned at the extreme end of the Emotional Spectrum, Red Lanterns are some of the most powerful individual Lanterns in DC lore. The first time a Red Lantern puts on their ring, their hearts burst and their blood boils into a powerful plasma that can melt almost any substance in the galaxy. Red Lanterns exist in a state of perpetual rage, so while their rings can shape their plasma into complex energy constructs, they tend to simply spray the napalm-like substance at their enemies or unleash it in powerful blasts. More composed Red Lanterns are capable of sophisticated constructs and teleportation, as well as influencing other Red Lanterns as de facto leaders. While Red Lanterns are consumed by rage, they're not inherently villainous, and many Red Lanterns have heroic or empathetic reasons behind their anger. Without hearts, they're difficult to kill, but they die instantly the moment they remove their rings. The Gold Lantern In the far future of the 31st Century, Power Ring technology has been perfected, leading to the Gold Lantern Ring. This Ring supposedly draws equally from the entire Emotional Spectrum, granting traditional Lantern powers with incredibly intricate constructs. What makes the Gold Lantern Ring unique is that it is particularly adept at molecular transformation, not just creating energy constructs, but warping pre-existing substances into new forms (for example, Kala Lour was able to transmute a gigantic tidal wave into light, preventing loss of life.) DC has teased that the Gold Lantern Ring isn't what it appears and may not even draw on the Emotional Spectrum for its power, but for now little is known about its true origins or limits. Ultaviolet Lantern Corps A forbidden power originally hidden outside the bounds of creation, Ultraviolent Power Rings draw energy from the mysterious 'Invisible Emotional Spectrum,' wielded by those with buried emotions. The ring enslaves its wielder to the will of the villainous sentient sun Umbrax, weaponizing their shame. Ultraviolent Power Rings function similarly to Green Lantern Power Rings, but pack significantly more offensive power. Due to drawing power from outside traditional reality, Ultraviolet Lanterns can shatter the rings of other Corps when they clash. Ultraviolet Lantern Rings are particularly adept at possessing their targets, stealing their wielders from other Corps. Manifesting as a glowing brand rather than a physical ring, they're also far harder to remove. Honorable Mentions While the entries on this list are all official colors of Lantern in DC lore, there are some impressive one-off and alt-universe rings that reached the same power level: 'Chrome Lanterns' - A recent evolution caused by a unified Corps uniting with the Emotional Entities, 'Chrome Lanterns' have traditional Lantern powers with seemingly limitless charge. The Starheart Ring - An experimental weapon wielded by the original Green Lantern, Alan Scott. Unlike other rings, the Starheart draws power from magic. It's capable of near-endless mystical abilities, including time travel, invisibility and hypnosis. Mother Box Ring - In Justice League: Another Nail, Big Barda wields a Green Lantern Ring merged with New God Mother Box technology. This ring was capable of divine feats, including resurrecting Mister Miracle in an energy body and destroying Darkseid's physical form. The Universal Ring - An experimental ring that taps into the whole emotional spectrum at once, the Universal Ring was hidden away by the Guardians in an alternate universe... that of Planet of the Apes. Planet of the Apes/Green Lantern revealed it has the potential to shatter a planet, with the wearer quickly losing control as their strongest emotions take over. ​​​​​​​Agent Orange DC's Larfleeze (aka Agent Orange) channels the 'Orange Light of Avarice,' rendering him infinitely greedy and power hungry. Because of that, he's unwilling and unable to share his power. Instead of a traditional Corps, Larfleeze kills anyone who seeks an Orange Power Ring and turns them into his constructs, commanding an army of ghosts given physical form by his ring. While Larfleeze tends to fight by splitting up his power into these constructs (each of which is roughly comparable to a Green Lantern), he officially wields the power of an entire Lantern Corps, making him one of the most powerful Lanterns of all time. Larfleeze has even been capable of battling the near-omnipotent Guardians of the Universe, and was considered such a major threat, they gifted him the entire Vega System as part of a peace treaty to keep his power isolated. ​​​​​​​White Lantern Corps White Lanterns draw power from existence itself, embodied in the Life Entity. Tapping into the entire Emotional Spectrum, they possess the strengths of every color without their weaknesses, making them superior to any other individual color ring. They're particularly powerful against Black Lanterns, with one White Lantern able to take out dozens of Black Lanterns. White Lantern Rings possesses all possible Ring powers, including construct creation, intangibility, hypnosis, teleportation and invisibility. They also have unique powers of healing - including healing their wearer automatically, resurrecting the dead to true life and restoring ecosystems and stars to good health.
