6 out of 9 dams see water level increases

(Photo by Carmela Reyes-Estrope) MANILA, Philippines — Water levels at six of nine monitored dams across the country increased slightly over the past 24 hours as the southwest monsoon, or habagat, continued to prevail in parts of Luzon and the Visayas, according to the state weather bureau. In its latest update as of 8 a.m., the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the dams of Angat, Ambuklao, Binga, Pantabangan, Magat, and Caliraya had increases in their water levels. READ: Habagat to prevail over parts of Luzon, Visayas until Wednesday Article continues after this advertisement Binga Dam in Benguet registered the biggest increase of 0.50 meters (m), where its water level rose from 573.40 m to 573.90 m. Angat Dam in Bulacan followed, with water level rising from 205.81 m to 206.30 m (0.49 m). The water levels of the following dams also increased: Pantabangan Dam in Nueva Ecija from 197.25 m to 197.61 m (0.36 m); Caliraya Dam in Laguna from 286.79 m to 287.11 m (0.32 m); Ambuklao Dam in Benguet from 751.33 m to 751.41 m (0.08 m); and Magat Dam in Isabela from 181.24 m to 181.32 m (0.08 m). READ: Water, forest and neighborhood to decide future of Baguio constructions Meanwhile, the water levels of the following dams decreased: San Roque Dam in Pangasinan from 282.08 m to 279.46 m (-2.62 m); Ipo Dam in Bulacan from 100.40 m to 99.81 m (-0.59 m); and La Mesa Dam in Quezon City from 78.32 m to 78.13 m (-0.19 m). Pagasa also said two gates each of the Ambuklao, Binga, and San Roque dams were opened on Monday. In a separate 5 a.m. weather forecast, the weather bureau said that the habagat will persist in parts of Luzon and Visayas from Monday until Wednesday.
