Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery have merged to form Skydance. The David Ellison-led media company now owns some of the most important franchises from two legacy studios, including Game of Thrones, the DC Universe, Mission: Impossible, Yellowstone, and Dune. One of Ellison's plans is to eventually combine Paramount+ and HBO Max into one streaming service. For now, the "short-term" plan is to have them operate separately and offer bundling options. Integrating the services will take time, but their shows will eventually be available on the same platform. Once that happens, what should you watch? I know I'll be watching a Game of Thrones spin-off and a DC superhero show. However, my top pick involves a trip to Hogwarts. 6 Survivor Survivors ready! One of the benefits of having Paramount+ is access to the CBS shows. Broadcast television refuses to throw in the towel and bow down to streaming. One of the network's flagship shows is Survivor, the reality competition series in which strangers battle the elements and compete in challenges for a cash prize. Since May 2000, Survivor has been a staple on CBS, with host Jeff Probst guiding the contestants every step of the way. Survivor is considered one of the shows that increased the profile of reality television. That first finale averaged over 50 million U.S. viewers, an unfathomable number in today's landscape. With 51 seasons under its belt, I don't see Survivor going away anytime soon. 5 MobLand Enter London's criminal underworld If you appreciate star power, MobLand has a roster of heavy hitters both in front of and behind the camera. Tom Hardy, Helen Mirren, and Pierce Brosnan headline the crime drama, with Guy Ritchie attached as executive producer and director. In London, the Harrigan family runs one of the most powerful criminal organizations in the area. When problems need solving, the Harrigans send in their fixer, Harry Da Souza (Hardy). MobLand is not for the faint of heart. It is a violent show, and Harry is at the center of a lot of the brutality. The show also has a wicked sense of humor, with Mirren constantly stealing scenes. MobLand recently kicked off season 2, and fans will be happy to know that Paramount+ renewed the series for a third season. MobLand Release Date March 30, 2025 4 A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Dunk and Egg I didn't know much heading into A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, the third show in the Game of Thrones universe. I had never read the Tales of Dunk and Egg, so I had no previous relationship with the titular characters. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is not Game of Thrones, and that's fine with me. It was such a delightful surprise. Ser Duncan "Dunk" the Tall (Peter Claffey) is a lowly hedge knight who strolls into Ashford to compete in the tournament. It's there he meets Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell), a bald boy who becomes Dunk's squire. This unlikely pairing forms an entertaining duo, one backed by infectious chemistry between Claffey and Ansell. If you were on the fence, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is far superior to House of the Dragon. 3 Dutton Ranch The Yellowstone saga continues If I had to rank Paramount's most important television assets for streaming, Taylor Sheridan's shows are in that first tier. With how many shows he creates, writes, and produces, I don't know how Sheridan sleeps. Yellowstone is easily his most important franchise, with Dutton Ranch serving as a sequel to the flagship show. Dutton Ranch centers on Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) and Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser), who leave Montana to start over at a new ranch in Texas. It's a Yellowstone show, so drama has to follow. Beth and Rip face opposition from the wealthy Beulah Jackson (Annette Bening), who owns a rival ranch. Even though Sheridan is only an executive producer, Dutton Ranch is essentially Yellowstone 2.0, so diehard fans should be satisfied. 2 Lanterns The DCU's next TV entry The new DCU has been a mixed bag. Superman and Peacemaker were successes, while Supergirl was a misfire. After finishing Lanterns, I'm ready to declare it the best thing in the DCU. Kyle Chandler stars as Hal Jordan, the legendary member of the Green Lantern Corps. Hal is tasked with training a new recruit, John Stewart, played by Aaron Pierre. Hal and John travel to Rushville, Nebraska, after a shooting at a high school football game. It's not an open-and-shut case, as aliens might have played a part in the tragedy. If you're expecting a faithful adaptation of the intergalactic space cops, you'll be disappointed. Forget everything you know about the Green Lantern Corps; treat the show like True Detective, and you'll be rewarded with an excellent character drama. 1 Harry Potter You're a wizard, Harry The most important show for HBO's future is Harry Potter, the television adaptation of J.K. Rowling's beloved fantasy novels. HBO plans to adapt all seven books over the next decade, making the series a huge investment in "The Boy Who Lived." Season 1 is titled Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone and will premiere at Christmas 2026. The usual suspects will be there, including Harry (Dominic McLaughlin), Hermione (Arabella Stanton), and Ron (Alastair Stout), as they attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Do people want to watch more Harry Potter in addition to the movies? I would bet yes. Harry Potter Release Date 2026 - 2026 Showrunner Francisca Gardiner Directors Mark Mylod What about the other streaming services? Not everyone has Paramount+ and HBO Max, and that's OK. If Netflix is your preferred service, there is a great selection of thrillers, including The Sixth Sense and Unabomber. Meanwhile, one of the new shows heading to Hulu is Phony, an intriguing mystery comedy starring Connie Britton.
