Named Mayura Sahasra, the 22-carat creation was crafted by Joyalukkas Jewellery over several months. The exquisite jhumkas were unveiled on October 24 at the Jewel of Joy showroom in Dubai Gold District. According to Gulf News, the unveiling was attended by Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri, the UAE's Minister of Economy and Tourism.Measuring 1.215 metres in length and 0.682 metres in diameter, the earrings are far removed from the delicate jhumkas traditionally worn at weddings and festive occasions. Their sheer size and weight make them a statement of craftsmanship as much as a display of gold. The elaborate pair took 55 skilled artisans several months and a total of 5,840 hours of work to complete, according to the report.
