50 Cent Recalls Angering Jay-Z During 2003 Commercial Shoot: ‘Jay Still Owes Me a Favor’

The G-Unit boss recalled allegedly pissing off the Brooklyn rap deity while shooting a 2003 Reebok commercial. “See jay still owe me a favor for doing this s–t, they brought me the first G-Unit sample while we was recording this. I said I’m wearing my shoe in this, jay got so mad,” 50 wrote on Instagram Thursday (Sept. 3) about not wearing an early G-Unit sneaker sample during the “Reebok (Interlude)” spot. “True story !” Billboard has reached out to Jay-Z for comment. The clip found Jay and 50 rapping about their lucrative new deals in a studio to promote Hov’s S. Carter collection, which included his first S. Carter Reebok sneaker. 50 also got his own sneaker line with Reebok, as the G6 proved to be a massive success for the apparel brand. More than 20 years later, the G6 re-released on Aug. 20 with a retail price of $130, and the kicks quickly sold out at Reebok retailers across the U.S. “Reebok took a chance on me early and it paid off in a big way for us both,” 50 told Complex in August about the landmark sneaker collaboration. “The G6 created a whole new category in sneaker culture and opened up new opportunities in the music space. It gave hip-hop artists a platform to go beyond being just artists. It wasn’t the norm back then.” 50 and Jay’s rivalry has largely been a one-sided affair in recent years, with Fif continuing to troll Hov on social media. Both rap legends will be busy this weekend, with Jay-Z performing in London at Wembley Stadium on Sept. 4 and 5, while 50 is slated to make an appearance at E11EVEN nightclub in Miami on Saturday (Sept. 5).
