5 new shows to watch this weekend across Netflix, Prime Video, and more (September 18-20)

It's been a loaded week of television thanks to the 2026 Primetime Emmys. One show on this list returns for its sixth season this week and recently won an Emmy for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series. Paramount+ welcomes the return of a crime drama produced by Guy Ritchie. Netflix has released the latest chapter of the Monster anthology series, while HBO kicks off its music documentary series featuring an all-time great rapper. However, my top pick of the week is a spin-off of one of Prime Video's most popular action shows. All five shows are available to stream in the U.S. 5 Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story A female killer steps into the spotlight Once September hits, Netflix queues up the latest installment of Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan’s anthology series about famous murderers. Since 2022, the series has covered Jeffrey Dahmer, Lyle & Erik Menendez, and Ed Gein. Next up is the first female murder suspect in the series, Lizzie Borden. In 1892, a young Lizzie Borden (Ella Beatty) is accused of murdering her father (Charlie Hunnam) and stepmother (Rebecca Hall). The series poses a simple question—did Lizzie commit the murders? Getting to the answer isn't as simple, especially when a storyline involving the maid (Vicky Krieps) complicates the issue. Monster can be a tough watch, but it's an addicting one that appeals to many Netflix subscribers. Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story is now streaming on Netflix. Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story Release Date September 17, 2026 Network Netflix Directors Max Winkler, Sarah Adina Smith 4 MobLand season 2 Don't mess with the Harrigans Guy Ritchie's work ethic is insane right now. The British filmmaker has his hands in both movies and television, including Netflix's The Gentlemen and Prime Video's Young Sherlock. At Paramount+, Ritchie is an executive producer on the wildy popular series MobLand, which returns for its second season. Tom Hardy stars as Harry Da Souza, the tough and savvy fixer for the Harrigan crime family, which includes patriarch Conrad (Pierce Brosnan) and matriarch Maeve (Helen Mirren). In season 2, the Harrigans are a fractured group, and if they don't neutralize the threats facing them, their rivals will gain more power. Like many crime shows, MobLand features violence, but it's also a show about lies, deception, and loyalty. Add it to the list of gritty crime dramas to watch. MobLand Release Date March 30, 2025 3 Slow Horses season 6 Jackson Lamb, back at it again If you want television that returns on a regular schedule, watch Slow Horses, which has released a new season every year since 2022. The same can't be said for Severance and Stranger Things. What's even better—Slow Horses only has six episodes per season. That's a British TV model, and I love it. Gary Oldman returns as Jackson Lamb, the grumpy leader of Slough House, the place in MI5 where disgraced agents go to waste away at the agency. In season 6, the agents are on the run as they face a new threat who Lamb suspects may have ties to Slough House. Slow Horses is everything you want in a show—memorable performances, terrific writing, and exceptional direction. The show remains one of the gold standards of television. The first episode of Slow Horses season 6 is now streaming on Apple TV. One episode will release weekly on Wednesdays until October 21, 2026. 2 Jay-Z in 8 Inside the mind of a genius Jay-Z has sort of been out of the spotlight for a few years, but 2026 has been a different story. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee recently completed his Paris stop on the Jay-Z 30 Tour. Now, Hov heads to television in Jay-Z in 8, a new HBO documentary directed by iconic producer Rick Rubin. Jay-Z and Rubin sit down to discuss the rapper's legendary career and the 30th anniversary of his debut album Reasonable Doubt. The eight-part series is catnip for hip-hop fans, as Rubin takes the audience inside a genius's creative process. Hopefully, Jay-Z's return to the public eye means another album is in the works. The first two episodes of Jay-Z in 8 premiere on HBO and HBO Max on Sept. 18 at 8 p.m. ET/PT. Two new episodes will debut weekly on Fridays until Oct. 9. Instead of playing second fiddle to Ritchson, Sten now steps into the lead role for the spin-off Neagley. As a private investigator in Chicago, Neagley learns about the tragic and mysterious death of her childhood friend. As she digs deeper into the case, Neagley uncovers a bigger conspiracy that could explain her friend's death. Reacher fans, have no fear. Neagley still brings the action while also diving deeper into the backstory of Reacher's top ally. All eight episodes of Neagley are now streaming on Prime Video.
