The top story in Hollywood is easily the official merger of Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery to form Skydance. How it will affect the entire streaming landscape has yet to be seen. For now, turn your attention toward things you can actually control, like picking out shows to watch this week. Two returning shows might pique your interest: one is a Hulu legal drama, and the other is a long-running NBC drama. MGM+ has an enticing adventure show adapted from a legendary book. Netflix is set to release a creature feature set in a small Canadian town. Yet my top selection of the week is a new adaptation of a beloved Stephen King novel. Stream all five shows in the U.S. 5 Reasonable Doubt season 4 Jax fights for survival Of the two legal dramas on this list, Reasonable Doubt is the glossy option. It plays like a Shondaland show—creator Raamla Mohamed and executive producer Kerry Washington previously worked on Scandal. Reasonable Doubt contains scandalous storylines, juicy gossip, and a whole lot of melodrama. When Reasonable Doubt season 4 begins, Jax (Emayatzy Corinealdi) is in the hospital fighting to survive a gunshot wound she suffered in the previous season's finale. While Jax recovers, her law firm falls into peril as rivals swoop in to steal her clients. The knives are out this season, so prepare for some backstabbing and cutthroat tactics. The first three episodes of Reasonable Doubt season 4 are now streaming on Hulu. New episodes will release weekly on Tuesdays. 4 Law & Order: Special Victims Unit season 28 Dun dun I would love to poll Americans between the ages of 18 and 70 to see how many have watched at least one episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (SVU). Nothing can be 100%, but I'm expecting a figure over 80%. Dick Wolf's Law & Order: SVU has been on the air since 1999, and I don't see it ending anytime soon. In season 28, Mariska Hargitay returns as Captain Olivia Benson, the leader of the Special Victims Unit, who investigates sexually based offenses. Helping Benson along the way are her trusty comrades Sgt. Fin Tutuola (Ice-T), Dominick Carisi (Peter Scanavino), and Amanda Rollins (Kelli Giddish). SVU's strength is that viewers can jump in at any time and understand what's going on. Law & Order: SVU season 28 premieres on Oct. 8 at 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT on NBC. Stream the next day on Peacock. 3 Treasure Island Adventure series comes to life Treasure Island has been in the news lately, with Hugh Jackman and director Ridley Scott teaming up on a feature adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson's novel. That movie hits theaters on Nov. 11, 2027. If you can't wait that long, MGM+ has a television adaptation of Treasure Island coming out this weekend. Treasure Island is a coming-of-age story that depicts the evolution of Jim Hawkins (Tom Sweet), a teenager who sets sail alongside his mother Bess (Hayley Atwell) while following a map to find buried treasure. Along the way, Jim will interact with famous Treasure Island characters, including the iconic pirate Long John Silver (David Oyelowo). This adaptation will also incorporate new characters into the story, like Aaron Graham, a British spy played by Jack Huston. Treasure Island premieres on Oct. 11 on MGM+, with episodes released weekly. Treasure Island Release Date October 11, 2026 Network MGM+ Directors Jeremy Lovering, Paul Walker, William McGregor 2 Below What is lurking beneath the water? What joy it is to see Josh Hartnett back in mainstream Hollywood. He impressed in Oppenheimer and Trap, and he's currently one of the stars of the twisted thriller Verity. Hartnett will look to keep the momentum going on streaming with Below, one of Netflix's new shows releasing in October. In a small Newfoundland town, Calvin Penney (Hartnett) fishes to provide for his wife and children. Penney has been plagued by the death of his father since he was a child, so he's motivated to protect his family. Well, Calvin's family will need his protection against a dangerous sea creature wreaking havoc underwater. With an alluring premise and the tease of a horror story, Below might be another feather in the cap for the "King of Thrillers." All episodes of Below are now streaming on Netflix. Below Release Date October 8, 2026 Network Netflix Showrunner Jesse McKeown 1 Carrie Mike Flanagan tackles Stephen King's illustrious novel Stephen King is a leading contender for Hollywood's most adapted author. Movies like The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile are all-time classics, and shows like It and The Outsider are terrific adaptations. Horror maestro Mike Flanagan, who recently adapted King's The Life of Chuck, is tackling one of the author's seminal works, Carrie. Quiet teenager Carrie White (Summer H. Howell) has been secluded from the outside world by her mother Margaret (Samantha Sloyan). Now, she's forced to attend high school, which brings forth a new set of problems, including bullying. If you've read the book or seen the 1976 movie, you know the memorable scenes, including the period incident and the prom, are coming. However, how Flanagan gets there and how he adapts the story for the modern age is where the intrigue lies. All episodes of Carrie are streaming on Prime Video. Carrie Release Date 2026 - 2026-00-00 Network Prime Video Showrunner Mike Flanagan What else should you check out? If you know where to look, there's always something to watch on streaming. If you head to Paramount+, check out miniseries you can finish in a single day, like Lawmen: Bass Reeves and George & Tammy. On Netflix, stream shows that are impossible to stop watching after the first episode, like Homeland and Breaking Bad.
