5 new Netflix shows to watch in August

Just like the list of new movies for this month, Netflix also has a great lineup of new and returning shows in August. Later in the month, the streamer says goodbye to the Pogues, who plan to go out in a fiery fifth and final season. Two shows return for their third season. One is a coming-of-age teen drama with an emphasis on romance, and the other is a hilarious show from one of the top comedians in Hollywood. Fans of animated comedies might be interested in Ricky Gervais' new show. Plus, there is a special live event that pays homage to a beloved movie. My Life with the Walter Boys season 3 A good old-fashioned love triangle Love triangles can be found in all age groups, including teenagers. My Life with the Walter Boys, Netflix's hit young adult drama, features an intriguing triangle between Jackie Howard (Nikki Rodriguez) and the Walter brothers: Cole (Noah LaLonde) and Alex (Ashby Gentry). Ever since she moved in with the Walters, there has been serious romantic tension between the three. Through two seasons, Jackie has been in an on-and-off relationship with Alex, while also secretly kissing Cole. The end of season 2 features a shocking confession of love, but it's interrupted by a medical emergency involving George (Marc Blucas). My Life with the Walter Boys is packed with melodrama, but it's much sweeter than most of the other shows in this genre. My Life with the Walter Boys season 3 streams on August 6. Ricky Gervais' Alley Cats The polarizing comedian takes on animation "Divisive" is probably a strong enough word to describe Ricky Gervais. The English comedian has been making audiences either laugh with delight or yell in disgust for nearly 30 years. Love him or hate him, you've probably seen The Office or one of his Golden Globe monologues. In 2026, Gervais takes his form of comedy to animation in Alley Cats. Created by Gervais, Alley Cats follows a group of British feral cats who seek friendship. There is certainly a lot of heart in the show, but since it's a Gervais comedy, expect some social commentary and profanity. It wouldn't be a Gervais show without it. Tires season 3 Shane Gillis and his band of misfits return When determining the top stand-up comedian in the country right now, Shane Gillis has to rank in the top five. He recently performed at at Lincoln Financial Field, which broke the Guinness World Record for most tickets sold for a comedy show by a solo comedian. Gillis somehow found time from his busy touring schedule to shoot Tires season 3, his workplace comedy, which he co-created with Steve Gerben and John McKeever. Valley Forge Automotive Center is not a top-of-the-line store. The business is struggling with Will (Gerben), the heir to his father's business, and his cousin Shane (Gillis) running things. While Will wants to turn things around, Shane always seems to be a thorn in his cousin's side. The day-to-day chaos at the shop is where the true comedy lives. The streamer now has the broadcast rights to the coolest game on the schedule, MLB at Field of Dreams. In 2021, MLB had a regular-season game at the baseball diamond where Field of Dreams was filmed. Surrounded by the cornfields of Dyersville, Iowa, the game is one of the best things MLB has done this decade. After a four-year hiatus, the MLB at Field of Dreams returns this summer and will pit Bryce Harper and the Philadelphia Phillies against Byron Buxton and the Minnesota Twins. First pitch is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET/4:30 p.m. PT on August 13. The Field of Dreams game is a sight to behold, even if you don't enjoy baseball.
