These are the shows you can put on after a long day without worrying about finding something new and the ones that somehow remain entertaining even when you already know exactly how the story unfolds. For me, some series have become an almost yearly tradition. Rewatching a show isn't always about reliving the story, either. Sometimes, it's the characters, the humor, the atmosphere, or simply the familiarity that makes returning to a favorite series so satisfying. Netflix has no shortage of options, but its huge library can also make it surprisingly difficult to find something worth committing to. These are the shows I've found myself coming back to year after year and the ones I have no problem recommending when someone asks what they should watch next. Breaking Bad One of the greatest crime shows ever made You can't have a discussion about the best shows ever produced without bringing up Breaking Bad. What Vince Gilligan achieved with this show is nothing short of art. It holds a special place in my heart, and I have religiously rewatched it almost every year. When it first hit the air, I wasn't convinced by the premise and missed out, but it has since become my favorite show and something that I recommend to anyone willing to listen. When Bryan Cranston landed the role of Walter White, there were plenty of naysayers. Having primarily starred as the goofy dad in Malcom in the Middle, people weren't convinced he could handle a dramatic role. However, his performance has become iconic. Props should also go to Aaron Paul, who held his own as Jesse Pinkman. Breaking Bad Release Date 2008 - 2013-00-00 Network AMC Cast Bryan Cranston, Aaron Paul, Dean Norris, Betsy Brandt, Anna Gunn, RJ Mitte, Bob Odenkirk, Jonathan Banks, Giancarlo Esposito, Steven Michael Quezada, Charles Baker, Christopher Cousins, Matt Jones, Michael Shamus Wiles, Lavell Crawford, Jesse Plemons, Ray Campbell, Tina Parker, Carmen Serano, Emily Rios, Krysten Ritter, Laura Fraser, Jeremiah Bitsui, Mark Margolis, Ian Posada, David House, David Costabile, michael bowen, Kevin Rankin, Aaron Hill, Harry Groener, Patrick Sane, Daniel Moncada, Luis Moncada, Marius Stan, Bill Burr, Todd Terry, Jessica Hecht, Tait Fletcher, Rodney Rush, Kaija Roze Bales, Matt Metzler, John de Lancie, Tom Kiesche, Jere Burns, Maurice Compte, Morse Bicknell, Nigel Gibbs, Tess Harper, Raymond Cruz, Max Arciniega, Cesar Garcia, Jesus Jr., Michael Bofshever, Julie Dretzin, Mike Seal, Christopher Dempsey, Javier Grajeda, Mike Batayeh, Chris Freihofer, Louis Ferreira, Gonzalo Menendez, Jason Douglas, Adam Godley Showrunner Vince Gilligan Directors Vince Gilligan, Michelle Maclaren Writers Peter Gould, Gennifer Hutchison, Vince Gilligan, George Mastras, Moira Walley-Beckett, Sam Catlin, Thomas Schnauz Franchise(s) Breaking Bad Better Call Saul A fantastic sequel that holds its own When Breaking Bad introduced Saul Goodman, there weren't plans to keep the character running for long. However, he was so widely loved that when Breaking Bad ended, Bob Odenkirk's charismatic lawyer ended up with his own spin-off, Better Call Saul. As much as I love Breaking Bad, I think Better Call Saul is better, and I binge them one after the other. Much like Cranston, Bob Odenkirk was another actor that people were dubious about in a dramatic role. He was mostly known as a comedian before appearing on Vince Gilligan's show. Just like Cranston, he blew people's expectations away, solidifying himself as a heavy hitter that can tackle any kind of role. I might be considered a masochist for rewatching it every year, but its fine blend of comedy and existentialism makes it so compelling, which is why it is so critically acclaimed. BoJack Horseman uses an age-old literary technique. The absurd mix of humans and animals in the show allows it to tackle devastating subject matter in a way that is easier for the viewer to digest. It tackles depression, addiction, toxic celebrity culture, and a swath of other difficulties. It holds a mirror up to you as the viewer, forcing you to confront your flaws. I'm not the biggest fan of some of the later seasons, as I think that it gets a bit repetitive, but I constantly revisit the first two seasons of the show. Back when it first aired, it took an aging genre and revitalized it, and it has since become a defining piece of television. The first two seasons of the show were fantastic. I only rewatch the first two seasons because they are nearly perfect, while the rest of the show doesn't quite live up to the hype. It is about simple survival with Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) navigating a post-apocalyptic world that he knows nothing about, and that is what makes it so great. Eglee Franchise(s) The Walking Dead Cyberpunk Edgerunners One of the greatest video game adaptations As a big fan of the game Cyberpunk 2077, I was a bit nervous before watching Edgerunners. Video game adaptations rarely live up to the hype, and I didn't want to be let down. Luckily, I wasn't. It acts as a prequel to the game and stays true to the source material without relying too heavily on it to tell its story. Even though it only came out a couple of years ago, I have watched the first season a couple of times, and I can't wait for the second season. The cyberpunk genre has never been more relevant, and I think Edgerunners does a fantastic job of criticizing corporate greed and our overreliance on technology without ever feeling like it's preaching at you. The anime is so emotionally impactful, and it really drives home the adage that there are no happy endings in Night City. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Release Date 2022 - 2022-00-00 Network Netflix Cast KENN, Kento Shiraishi, Aoi Yuuki, Takako Honda, Kenjiro Tsuda, Kazuhiko Inoue, Tomoyo Kurosawa, Hiroki Touchi, Yasuyuki Kase, Michiko Kaiden, Kaito Ishikawa, Hidenari Ugaki, Atsuko Sakuraoka, Akira Kuwabara, Yohei Matsuoka, Hitoshi Bifu, Kotomi Aihara, Atsushi Tamaru, Emiko Takeuchi, Ayano Hamaguchi, Takanori Hoshino, Masaomi Yamahashi, Takeshi Hirabayashi, Akira Koga, Marina Mizusaki, Shunpei Kusano, Tomomichi Nishimura, Shouto Kashii, Yoshito Yasuhara, Shigeo Kiyama, Anna Nagase, Hikaru Tanaka, Shomaru Zouza, Ryo Shimokawa Writers Mike Pondsmith, Yoshiki Usa, Masahiko Otsuka, Bartosz Sztybor, Jan Bartkowicz, Łukasz Ludkowski Franchise(s) Cyberpunk A roster of favorites that I have no problem watching over and over again Netflix is packed with some top-tier television across numerous genres. The above are just some of my favorites, but they are only a few examples of the great shows on the platform. From genre-defining modern classics, such as Breaking Bad, to new and sleek animated shows, like Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, there are plenty of shows with a ton of rewatchability.
