Steam has a near-endless catalog of games that you can spend your hard-earned cash and valuable time on. But if the looming release of Grand Theft Auto VI has you strapped for cash and looking for ways to pass the time until November 19, worry not. There's actually a ridiculous amount of fun to be had for free. Outside of massive hits like Counter-Strike 2 and Dota 2, new games are added to Steam's free-to-play catalog all the time. So here are five new games worth your time that you can play for free this weekend. WendyQuest: Legend of the Four Corner Stones REDSHIFT HELENA : Cloud District Den: A Short Horror Story Agent of Strange: Arrival WendyQuest: Legend of the Four Corner Stones WendyQuest: Legend of the Four Corner Stones is a 2D turn-based RPG where players fight evil mechs across Savoria, a magical land made up of burgers, fries, and creamy confections. You play as the iconic ginger fast-food mascot herself. Yes, you actually play as Wendy, and yes, this game was actually made by Wendy's. It's not some elaborate joke to sell Baconators, either. Sure, the game is packed with references to the company's menu and past advertisements, but it's also a surprisingly solid JRPG in its own right, sitting at a Very Positive rating on Steam with players praising its depth and humor. And, in case you were wondering, it's also 100% human-made. REDSHIFT REDSHIFT is a first-person psychological horror game where players explore an abandoned facility owned by a mysterious corporation in search of whatever has been generating power there after more than 20 years of silence. The twist is a mechanic called REDSHIFT. After taking a mysterious gas to the face, players can press Q to close their eyes and reveal a "hidden layer of reality" that helps them solve puzzles and evade a dangerous entity stalking them. It isn't too scary for those on the more squeamish side, and with a roughly 30-minute runtime, it might just be worth a download! HELENA : Cloud District HELENA : Cloud District is an atmospheric exploration game with an emphasis on fluid movement. With a dystopian aesthetic not too dissimilar to that of STRAFTAT, players traverse a massive floating structure while taking pictures of unusual plant life. With no combat or real fail state, players are free to slide, hover, and glide through the structure at their own pace, uncovering new areas and taking in its eerie scenery and ambient soundtrack while learning more about their purpose. If you're a fan of games that capture the feeling and flow of surfing in Counter-Strike, this might be the game for you. Den: A Short Horror Story Den: A Short Horror Story is, as the name suggests, a quick psychological horror experience. Players rent a cabin in the woods to escape their troubled lives, spending their days chopping wood for the fire, cooking sausages, and birdwatching until things start to go very wrong. Featuring a great original soundtrack and excellent sound design, this one should definitely be on your list. Agent of Strange: Arrival Agent of Strange: Arrival is a prologue to an upcoming story-driven RPG set in a strange, snowy city ruled by a sinister family. Playing as an exiled conspirator, you'll have to make your way back home and help plan an uprising against the regime. Your character's past shapes their personality and abilities, while missions can be approached through combat, stealth, persuasion or deception. This is only the first chapter of a larger RPG, but it looks like a promising start. So, whether you're in the mood for a literal Wendy's JRPG, a short horror game, or just something to sink a few hours into, there's plenty worth checking out on Steam without spending a dime. All five games are free to play, so there's no reason not to give them a shot this weekend. Brand Valve Original Release Date September 12, 2003
