₹424-crore project to ensure 24X7 drinking water supply to Ongole

IT and HRD Minister Nara Lokesh laying the foundation stone for the Radisson Hotel project at Chadalawada in Prakasam district on Friday. | Photo Credit: KOMMURI SRINIVAS The Andhra Pradesh government has undertaken AMRUT 2.0 scheme at a cost of ₹424.42 crore to ensure round-the-clock drinking water supply to the residents of Ongole in Prakasam district, said IT and HRD Minister Nara Lokesh has said.Mr. Loesh laid the foundation stone for a major drinking water project at Rangarayudu Cheruvu in Ongole on Friday.“Megha Engineering & Infrastructures Limited (MEIL) is set to complete the project within two years. The project plan involves re-zoning of the 35 distribution zones in the city and developing a drinking water distribution network spanning 605.30 km. Through this initiative, 51,340 household connections will be set up, ensuring improved drinking water supply to every house,” the Minister said.The project’s primary objective is to modernise the city’s water supply system and ensure the availability of drinking water 24 hours a day, rather than just at specific times.“The project will ensure the supply of 85 million litres of water daily. An efficient and sustainable water supply system has been set up, keeping in mind the growing needs of the city,” Mr. Lokesh said.Radisson Hotel projectMr. Lokesh also laid the foundation stone for the Radisson Hotel project near Chadalavada in Naguluppalapadu mandal, proposed with an investment of ₹100 crore.“This is another significant step forward for the economic, industrial, and tourism development of Prakasam district. It is a joint partnership between Ravishankar Group and Ravipriya Hospitalities LLP,” he said.The five-star hotel will feature amenities such as 151 luxurious rooms, a multi-cuisine restaurant, a premium bar, and a lounge. The facilities include an international-standard swimming pool, a luxury spa, a state-of-the-art fitness centre, banquet halls and conference rooms, covering ​​over 2,100 square metres.20 statues unveiled at KIMS Hospital junctionLater, Mr. Lokesh unveiled statues of 20 eminent personalities at the KIMS Hospital Flyover Junction. The initiative aims to honour the contributions of these distinguished figures to society and pass on their ideals to future generations.
