40-year-old Indian-origin man gropes teen at park in Canada; arrested

A 40-year-old Indian-origin man has been charged with sexual assault and sexual intercourse for allegeding groping a teenage girl at a park in Surrey, Canada, CTV quoted authorities as saying.Jagendar Kurana was arrested on August 12, three days after the incident at Bear Creek Park, according to the Surrey Police Service (SPS).The survivor told police that she was groped by an adult man at the park on the evening of August 9. The suspect allegedly fled the area after the incident, police said.The SPS said its frontline officers responded to a report of sexual assault at Bear Creek Park on August 9 and spoke to the teenager at the scene. "Upon arrival, officers spoke to the victim, a female youth, who advised she had been groped by an adult male. The male suspect then fled the scene," the police said in a statement.Police released photographs of the accused on August 12 and appealed to the public for information. Later that day, officers identified and arrested Kurana, matching with the police's description of the suspect, the SPS said.The British Columbia Prosecution Service approved two Criminal Code charges against Kurana on August 13 -- one count each of sexual assault and sexual interference, according to the police.Kurana remains in custody and has been remanded pending a bail hearing, police said.
